VIDEO: Actress Emelia Brobbey Denies Shoplifting Reports + Eyewitness threatens to leak Emelia’s theft video



Recently, Ghanaian actress Emelia Brobbey was alleged to have stolen a bracelet at a shop - Piercings - while on vacation in London and was also reported to have been arrested by the Police.
The actress who returned to Ghana yesterday debunked the claim; according to her, five months ago, she went to the UK to deliver and after the delivery, she went to shop with her baby in a pram.
She narrated that as she left the shop, shop security approached her that their detectors had detected that she might have not paid for an item in her pram.
A bracelet, Emelia Brobbey added, was found in her possession and she was asked if she was ready to pay for the item and she indicated her preparedness to do so.

Teacher Docked for Impersonating Fashola’s, Aregbesola’s Wives

A 53- year-old teacher on Grade Level 10, Asogbon Victoria Abosede, was Thursday, arraigned before Lagos Chief Magistrate’s Court One, sitting in Ikeja, for allegedly impersonating the first lady of Lagos State, Dame Abimbola Fashola.
The defendant was said to have sent text messages between June and July to the Chairman of Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area of Lagos by falsely presenting herself as first lady of Lagos State and obtained N100, 000 from the chairman.
The defendant who is facing a 10-count charge of impersonation and fraud, preferred against her by the Lagos State government, was docked before Chief Magistrate Eniola Fabamwo.
The prosecutor, Attorney General of Lagos State, Ade Ipaye, told the court that the accused committed the alleged crime between the months of June and July 2013, by also sending text messages to one Gbolahan Khadijat Daudu, who is the Chairman, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Maryland in Ikeja area of Lagos.

Do you remember the novel ‘Pride and Prejudice’? Well, the the Bank of England has announced that the author, Jane Austen will become the new face of the £10 note starting from 2017. Jane would replace Charles Darwin, who has featured on the £10 note since 2000.
This gesture is in response to critics who say there are not enough women represented on banknotes.

Senate approves takeover of Rivers Assembly – Says Mbu must go

The Senate, on Thursday, voted that the National Assembly should take over the legislative powers of the Rivers State House of Assembly, in accordance with Section11(4) of the 1999 Constitution.
The lawmakers, after a closed-door session, also urged the state lawmakers allegedly plotting to unseat embattled Governor Rotimi Amaechi to drop such plan in the interest of peace and democracy.
The Senate specifically resolved that “the National Assembly should, as a matter of urgency, take over the functions and duties of the Rivers State House of Assembly, pursuant to Section 11, subsection 4 of the 1999 Constitution, pending the resolution of the crisis and restoration of peace in Rivers State.”

Nigerian Born Nne Ebong Replaces Michael McDonald as Senior VP at ABC Studios

ABC Studios' senior vice president of drama development, Michael McDonald is stepping aside from his position to start his own production company, Steams Castle, at ABC Studios, the company said Tuesday.
McDonald will be replaced by Nne Ebong, who's being promoted from drama development vice president to senior vice president, drama development.
The Nigerian-born has been with ABC studios since 2006; she has overseen the creative process of series like “Lost,” “Brothers & Sisters” and “The Ghost Whisperer,” and developed series including “Scandal” and “Revenge.”

Nne Ebong graduated from the University of Southern California (USC) with writing degrees from both the School of Cinema-Television and the Annenberg School of Journalism.

Obakeng B. Manowe, fondly called Yoko-Ono might not be a popular name in the make believe industry but she has earned herself a name as the first Botswana actress to land an acting role in Africa’s largest movie industry, Nollywood.
Yoko-Ono was asked in a recent interview how she managed to penetrate the highly competitive movie industry.
The Dramatic Arts student said it started in March this year when she was in Johannesburg, and then she met Nollywood’s actor, producer and director, Desmond Elliot.
“I could recognize Elliot’s face from the movies I always watched. I guess I was at the right place at the right time and I immediately asked if I could meet him and surprisingly I was given that opportunity. As soon as I made my way through I knew I had to use that chance to sell myself. Surprisingly, he seemed impressed and said I had a face for TV and we kept in touch ever since. He sponsored me to come to Nigeria for a movie production and that is how I landed the role,” she said.

Kiyoandfilo gathered that the actress plays the part of an international employer called ‘Betty’ in a new movie titled ‘Finding Mercy’; the film stars Desmond Elliot, Rita Dominic, Chioma Akpotha, Dabota Lawson and Uti Nwachukwu.

The police in Lagos have commenced investigations into the death of a 67-year-old cleric, Monday Ojajuni, who was allegedly killed by a woman, Temidayo Oladele, in front of his church in Mile 12.
Punch Metro learnt that the deceased, who was the Superintendent Evangelist of Celestial Church of God, Mile 12, died during a confrontation with Oladele over the latter’s decision to scoop some sand in front of his church.
The 19-year-old daughter of the deceased, Oluwaseun, said she witnessed the incident on July 19, 2013.
She said, “The woman (Oladele) came to pack sand in front of the church and another cleric, Assistant Superintendent Evangelist Samuel Oteghene, told her not to pack the sand. When my father arrived at the scene, Oteghene went inside.
“But the woman rebuffed all entreaties not to pack the sand, instead, she turned violent and tore my father’s robe.

Akindele House, Isale Asaka, Foko, Ibadan, an erstwhile sleepy and serene community in the capital city of Oyo State, came alive on Tuesday and it became a Mecca of sort, when the news of a miniature mermaid (omo Yemoja) filtered through the city.
It took a while before the Nigerian Tribune crew got access to the house, a storey building, and when it finally did, the head of the family, Alhaji Raufu A. Salau, said he was sleeping upstairs when he heard a lot of unusual noise which forced him to come downstairs.
According to him, “Ramota, his granddaughter, sells fried and roasted fish in the house and, as usual, purchased a carton of frozen fish that morning. She was in the process of cleaning the fish and separating those to be roasted from the ones to be fried when she was said to have screamed out loud and called on neighbours to come to her aid.”

First Trailer For Film Adaptation Of 'Half Of A Yellow Sun' Release

Half of a Yellow Sun is based on Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie‘s novel of the same name, which won the Orange Prize for Fiction in 2007. The drama follows twin sisters Olanna and Kainene as their lives are dramatically changed by the events of the Biafran War. As the trailer shows, it was an extremely tumultuous time. Weddings were interrupted by bombs going off. Along with the violence and destruction, the sisters also face personal troubles with their respective lovers.
The film is loaded down with talented names: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton and John Boyega (of Attack the Block), with acclaimed playwright Biyi Bandele at the helm.
The film does not have a release date yet, but it will be shown at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

Father Arrested for Raping 16-year-old daughter

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 45-year old man, Toyin Sodimu, for allegedly raping his 16-year-old daughter in Temidire community of Oke Apo, Akomoje, Abeokuta.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement that the teenager reported the incident to the Adatan Police Division after her father raped her about 2am last Saturday.
Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said following Sodimu’s arrest, the 16-year old girl had been taken to the hospital by the police for medical examination and treatment.
He added that the state Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, had ordered an investigation into the incident and vowed that the suspect would be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others.
The statement read in part, “The policemen attached to Adatan Divisional Headquarters in Abeokuta, Ogun State, have arrested one Toyin Sodimu in Temidire community of Oke Apo, Akomoje Abeokuta after he raped his own daughter, aged 16 year on Saturday.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Monday threatened to join the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in solidarity strike if the federal government failed to address the ASUU demands.
NLC President, Abdulwaheed Omar, made the threat at the opening ceremony of the “2013 Rain School” in Uyo.
“We call on the federal government to have meaningful dialogue with ASUU with a view to implementing the agreement.
“The state governments should equally obey the law and pay minimum wage to teachers and the local government workers as well as the 27.5 per cent teacher's enhanced salaries.

“Should these strikes persist, workers of Nigeria will not hesitate to join them in solidarity," he stressed.

NDLEA arrests 41 Suspects with N2.3bn worth of drugs

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Monday said it arrested 41 suspected drug traffickers in the first half of 2013.
NDLEA said in a statement issued by its spokesman, Mitchell Ofoyeju, in Lagos that it recovered drugs valued at N2.3 billion.
It said, "We have apprehended 41 suspected drug traffickers with 253.390kg of narcotics with an estimated street value of N2.3 billion.
The drugs were intercepted between January and June 2013. Those arrested include 39 males and two females.
"The command also won 53 cases most of which were charged to court in 2012. In the first half of the year, the airport command successfully seized 253.390kg of various illegal drugs.
