Waje Blast Fans for Saying She Don’t Deserve the Best Reggae Single Award

It is no longer news that singer Waje won the award for Best Reggae/Dancehall Single at the just concluded Headies; the gist is that some folks believe she don’t deserve the award.
According to comments posted online, some persons felt the award should have gone to Orezi for the song ‘Rihanna’. While others are of the opinion that the other two contenders, General Pype (Give to Me) and Baba Dee (Go Down) were in a better position to clinch the plaque.

Olamide and Davido Win Big at the Headies 2013: See Full list of Winners


Olamide emerged the biggest winner with three awards at The Headies 2013, which held last night, Thursday, December 26, 2013 at the Oriental Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos. Fast rising Afro pop artiste, Sean Tizzle won the Next rated artist of the year award and a Hyundai Tucson SUV. Davido bagged the Hip Hop World Revelation of the year award and Best R&B/Pop Album.
The Hall of Fame award went to legendary Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal who later closed the show with a five-star performance.
Other winners include 2Face, Banky W, Iyanya, Phyno, Waje, Nikki Laoye, Praiz, Mode 9, Black Magic, KCee among other acts.

Tiwa Savage and Dr Sid will be hosting this year’s Headies award which will be holding on Boxing Day, December 26 at the Grand Ballroom in the Oriental Hotel, Lekki. The Headies 2013 will hold on Boxing Day, December 26 at the Ground Ball Room of the Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos.
They were both hosted at the headies secretariat just before their photoshoot and video drop.

2014 Grammy Awards Nominees: Femi Kuti Nominated for ‘Best World Music Album’

The nominations for the 2014 Grammy Awards is out and LL Cool J has been announced as the host of the concert.
Afro beat maestro, Femi Kuti’s “No Place For My Dream” was nominated for ‘Best World Music Album’ – he is nominated alongside Ravi Shankar, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and Gipsy Kings.
The most nominations went to Jay Z with nine spot, followed by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Pharrell Williams, Kendrick Lamar, and Justin Timberlake with seven each. Drake picked up five.
The 2014 Grammy Awards will be held on Sunday, January 26 and will be aired live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The Beverly Hilton ballroom was jam-packed with stars on Saturday night for the 22nd annual British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA)-LA Britannia Awards.
Celebs like David Oyelowo, Lupita Nyong’o, Naomie Harris, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Idris Elba, and Kelly Rowland amongst others were in attendance.
Idris Elba was honoured with the BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Humanitarian Award.

YouTube hosted the inaugural YouTube Music Awards, a celebration of music honoring the artists and songs that YouTube fans have turned into global hits over the past year
The event went down at Pier 36 in New York City on Sunday, November 3, 2013. The awards show was streamed live on the internet and hosted by Jason Schwartzman and Reggie Watts with live performances by Lady Gaga and Eminem.

Idris Elba to receive Britannia Humanitarian Award at BAFTA LA show

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles (BAFTA Los Angeles) has announced that Idris Elba will be honored with the BAFTA LA Britannia Humanitarian Award at the 2013 ceremony taking place on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Elba is the star of TV's "Luther," and the films "Pacific Rim" and "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom." His charitable work off-set includes his involvement with the Prince's Trust, Staying Alive Foundation and supporting causes related to AIDS and HIV, at-risk/disadvantage youths, children, health and education.

11-year Old Nigerian, Zuriel Oduwole Appointed Ambassador In Tanzania


Africa's child ambassador, eleven year old Zuriel Oduwole, the Nigerian girl making the global case for educating the continents Girl Child and in the process, re-branding Africa, has been appointed an ambassador by Tanzania's First Lady. Zuriel was in the country last week - which was her second county stop on her East African leg to launch the acclaimed Dream Up, Speak Up, Stand Up project aimed at inspiring/encouraging African girls.
On October 11th, Zuriel was in Dar Es Salaam to attend the United Nations UNFPA event which focused on reducing the incidence of child marriage in Tanzania. After speaking at the event, she was formally invited to the office of the first lady Mrs Selma Kikwete (Zuriel pictured with the first lady above). Mrs Kikwete commended Zuriel for her leadership at such a young age, she also commended her for bringing issues of girl's education to several African leaders, then the first lady formally appointed Zuriel an ambassador for the largest foundation focused on gender issue - Wanawake na Maendeleo Foundation (WAMA) of which she's the founding patron.
Zuriel was presented with an intricate 3 foot statue of unity, the same type presented to the US president, to symbolize the effect of Zuriel's in the lives of Africa's young women.

Ice Prince has won the award for ‘Best African Act‘at the 2013 edition of the BET Awards.
The Chocolate City rapper was awarded the coveted prize this evening at the BET Broadcast Centre a few hours before the awards proper kicks off at the Nokia Theatre L.A. live in Los Angeles, California.

Dangote, Six Others Bag Honorary Citizenship of Arkansas

Seven Nigerians were among 17 personalities awarded honorary citizenship of the state of Arkansas in the U.S., each with a key to the city of Little Rock, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Gov. Mike Beebe of Arkansas also proclaimed May 30 of every year as Nigeria Day, which was celebrated with a spectacular display of fireworks.
The certificate for the proclamation was handed over to Prof. Ade Adefuye, Nigeria's Ambassador to the U.S., who was represented by Mr Baba Garba of the Consulate General of Nigeria in Atlanta.

Some of the recipients of the awards are Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the President of Dangote Group; Sir Joseph Arumemi-Ikhide, the Chairman of Arik Air, Gov. Rabi'u Kwankwaso of Kano State; Dr Akinwunmi Adesina, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, and Prof. Tajudeen Gbadamosi, a former lecturer of University of Lagos.

2face and Iceprince nominated for BET Awards 2013 Best International Act: Africa


Filo: The nominees for the 2013 BET Awards were announced last night in Downtown Los Angeles. Nigerian superstars, 2face Idibia and Iceprince would be contending with other African music giants for this year’s Best International Act: Africa.
Other nominees for Best International Act: Africa are Radio and Weasel (Uganda), R2Bees (Ghana), Donald (South Africa), and Toya Delazy (South Africa).
Meanwhile, Drake garnered the most nominations this year, with an impressive 12 nominations, including Best Male Hip Hop Artist and Video of the Year, while Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz tied with 8 nominations.

Patience Ozokwor Finally Pick Her Plaque for winning Best Actress at the 2012 GMA


Filo: Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor, also known as Mama G was in Accra over the weekend to pick her plaque for winning Best Actress in an African Collaboration at the 2012 Ghana Movie Awards.
The Plaque was presented to her at the rLG office at Osu, Accra where the Ghana Movie Awards trophies were unveiled.
Although the award ceremony held on Dec 25, 2012, the trophies were not ready at that time.
Organizers explained that the trophies were impounded in Dubai by immigration officials. But they finally arrived weeks ago; hence the unveiling ceremony which attracted some winners who came for their trophies.
