Farmer Kills HUGE 15-foot snake in Ekiti (PHOTO)

A cattle farmer in Ekiti has killed a massive 15-foot snake that had been terrorizing residents in the area.
Bayo Ibrahim, 23, killed the big snake around the Ado-Afao-Ekiti environs of the state.
The snake was said to have been notorious for killing domestic animals in the area.
The Nation reports:

The size of the snake attracted spectators from as far as Odo-Ado, Oke-Ila, Basiri, Nova Road and GRA in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, to the sparsely-populated Afao road, turning it into a Mecca of sorts.
The spectators said: “We have never seen anything like this”; “Is this what we have been living with?” and “This is the wonder of the year in Ekiti”.
They pushed one another to catch a view of the snake, which some said was big enough to feed, at least 40 sturdy men.

Nigerian Student to Be Deported From Canada for Throwing a Cat Against The Wall

A 23-year-old engineering student pleaded guilty Friday to animal cruelty for hurling his roommate’s kitten against the wall, leaving it so badly hurt it had to be put down.
Bassey Okokon had admitted that he did it because he was angry and annoyed with the tabby named Braveheart, which had been scratching the carpet and couch on Feb. 11, 2013.
The owner found the cat in convulsions and took it to an animal hospital but it had broken legs, head trauma and a spinal injury, the Ottawa Humane Society reported after Okokon was charged for what an inspector called an “appalling” act of “viciousness.”
“He obviously has significant anger issues,” said prosecutor David Elhadad, who argued for a suspended sentence including 12 months probation and counselling.

40 Pythons found in Canadian Hotel

40 Pythons found in Canadian Hotel

Little more than a week after a giant python crushed two young Canadian boys to death, police have recovered 40 of the snakes from a hotel room.
The reptiles were found in several plastic storage bins on Thursday night in a room in Brantford, Ontario, where a couple who had been evicted from their home were staying, police said in a statement.
Officers have opened a probe into the incident but they did not say where the couple were at the time or whether the pair would be charged with breaking local laws that prohibit owning pythons.
The snakes, which ranged in length from 30 centimeters to 1.4 meters, were in poor health and have been taken in by the Canadian Society for the Protection of Animals, where a veterinarian is monitoring them.

The find comes 11 days after Connor and Noah Barthe, aged six and four respectively, died in the eastern town of Campbellton, New Brunswick when an African python escaped from its terrarium and killed them

19-Foot Python Captured & Killed Near Miami, Sets Florida State Record

19-Foot Python Captured & Killed Near Miami, Sets Florida State Record

Hard to believe a Python this large still exist; anyway here is the gist!
Earlier this month, a man caught and killed a nearly 19-foot, 128-pound Burmese python near Miami. The snake is believed to be the largest ever captured in the state of Florida.
On May 11, Jason Leon spotted roughly three feet of python protruding from some bushes in a rural area of Miami-Dade County. He pulled the 18-foot, 8-inch python to the road, only to lose control of the giant female snake, which quickly wrapped itself around his arms and legs. After calling for help, Leon killed the python with a knife.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission released a statement thanking Leon.
“Jason Leon’s night time sighting and capture of a Burmese python of more than 18 feet in length is a notable accomplishment that set a Florida record. The FWC is grateful to him both for safely removing such a large Burmese python and for reporting its capture,” said Kristen Sommers, with FWC, in a release.

China: Dogs 'Clubbed To Death @ Abattoirs'

Kiyo: Investigators for Animal Equality said they gained access to slaughterhouses in Zhanjiang and Leizhou, which it says are used, with others, to kill tens of thousands of dogs every day.
A spokesman for Animal Equality said: "The shocking images show terrified dogs kept in appalling conditions ... before being brutally beaten with wooden clubs and stabbed to death in full view of other dogs (which) await their turn."
Dog meat is believed to have been eaten for thousands of years in China and is especially popular in the winter, as it is believed to warm the body.
The meat, which some Chinese believe has medicinal properties, is sold for up to 40 yen (£4.20) per 500g at stalls in Zhanjiang, investigators said.
Animal Equality says more than 10 million dogs are killed every year in China, although other estimates put the number at closer to 16 million.
