(Punch) The Police in Ondo
State say the bags snatched by a gang of robbers from an Ecobank van on
Wednesday contained processed bank vouchers and not cash as thought by the
robbers.
The robbery, which occurred
about 2pm on Wednesday, sent shivers across other banks, whose workers immediately
locked their doors against customers fearing possible attacks by the robbers.
Eyewitnesses had told
reporters that the robbers had snatched the bags, popularly called
Ghana-must-go, supposedly containing huge sums of money from a customer who had
gone to withdraw cash from the bank.
But Police Public Relations
Officer, Mr. Wole Ogodo, clarified that the bank had officially reported the
facts of the matter to the police, saying the robbers actually carted away a
bunch of papers.
