Farida Waziri was a disaster to Nigeria’s anti-corruption fight – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has described the appointment of Farida Waziri, the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, as a wrong step in Nigeria’s fight against corruption.

Mr. Obasanjo said this in an exclusive interview he granted Zero Tolerance, a magazine produced by the EFCC.

The former president, whose administration established Nigeria’s two main anti-corruption agencies, the EFCC and the ICPC, said he was aware that former Delta State Governor and convicted money launderer, James Ibori, played a major role in Mrs. Waziri’s appointment.

“I know that the woman they brought in to replace Ribadu (Farida Waziri) was not the right person for that job, because I understood that one of those who head-hunted her was James Ibori.”

Nadal wins 13th Grand Slam title by beating Djokovic in U.S. Open final

Hard to believe this is the same Rafael Nadal who was home during the U.S. Open a year ago, nursing a bad left knee. 

Hard to believe this is the guy sent packing in the first round of Wimbledon in June, losing to a 135th-ranked player. 

Looking fit as can be and maybe even better than ever, the No. 2-ranked Nadal pulled away from No. 1 Novak Djokovic 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 on Monday in a taut, tense U.S. Open final for his 13th Grand Slam title.

“This is probably the most emotional one in my career,” Nadal said. “I know I had to be almost perfect to win.”

One of Nigeria's Oldest twin sisters dies at 100

One of the centenarian twins, who celebrated their 100-year birthday on Saturday, March 16, Mrs Emily Kehinde Olukoga-Ogunde has passed on.

 In a statement by her only child, Mr Kunle Olukoga, the centenarian bade the world farewell on Thursday 5th September, 2013 at around 9am while having a nap, after her breakfast.

The twins were born on March 13, 1913 at Okun Owa, Ijebu, Ogun State.

She is survived by her son, grand children, great grand children and her twin sister, Mrs Esther Taiwo Olukoya, who has remained inconsolable after the news was broken to her.

RIP.

Pastor William Kumuyi, General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry has disowned the controversial videos of a ‘prophetess’ and others who claimed to have died, gone to heaven and came back to narrate their extra-terrestrial experience.

In the controversial videos being sold all over Nigeria, two women and a boy claimed they died, went to heaven and came back to narrate what they said God showed them.

One of such CDs is that of a Sierra Leonean woman, simply called Sister Linda Ngaujah. Linda said she died and was shown happenings in heaven and hell and that many of the members of a large church on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway are on their way to hell and that the founder of a leading church in Lagos should repent as he allegedly acquired his

Comedian Ushbebe of AY’s Crib set to wed November

‘Gongo aso’ hit maker, 9ice was studying Law at the Lagos State University before he dropped out due to paucity of funds ­– thereafter he veered into music.

Despite his success in music, his love for the learned profession remains unabated.

In a recent interview with Tribune, the singer who recently released a single titled ‘Ike Kan’ said he has actually returned back to school to chase his dream of becoming a lawyer.

Would you trade your being famous for something else if you look at some of the bad side of fame that you have experienced over time?

Yes, I will love to trade fame with some silent life that does not arrogate too much attention to one, but it has got nothing to do with any bad experience. No matter what you do or who you are, there’s always a difficult time and life challenges that you can’t run away from. But I will really love to trade because I wish to be a lawyer.That has always been my dream.

Delta State Commissioner stabbed by protesting PDP youth

The commissioner for Secondary and Basic Education, Professor Patrick Muoboghare was on Saturday stabbed by youth protesting over the list of the party executives in Uwheru and Agbarho wards.

The youth who are members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) went on rampage after accusing the commissioner of manipulating the list of ward congresses held last year.

A bulk of the protesting PDP members were said to be from the commissioner’s home town, Uwheru.

Several other party members were injured in the fracas.

Vanguard reports:

The aggrieved youths, who stormed the party secretariat in large numbers, disrupted the inauguration ceremony for hours, as party leaders and political office holders in the area ran for safety. The youth destroyed plastic chairs and other property belonging to the party.

ANOTHER BABY FACTORY: Hairdresser, 3 others nabbed in Enugu

An Enugu-based female hairdresser, Ifeoma Obike, who allegedly combined her business with the illicit trade of baby factory, has been arrested by operatives of Anti Human Trafficking Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department of Enugu State Police Command.

Ifeoma, who claimed to be a native of Oguta in Imo State and a popular hairstylist in New Haven, Enugu, according to the police, allegedly tried to augment her earnings from her legitimate business by engaging in the “baby for sale” trade which had been thriving in many parts of the South-East for some time.

Ifeoma who claimed to have five children out of wedlock, however, denied being involved in child trafficking but she was found with a baby, which she claimed belonged to her sister in Lagos.

The police said she would be taken to Lagos to confirm her claim though the operatives doubted her because the baby was too tender to be cared for by any person other than her mother.

Supermodel Naomi Campbell and singer Maxwell were spotted together at the US Open on Friday. They came to watch the clash between Serena Williams and Na Li at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center.

Naomi was spotted close to Maxwell, sitting on his lap. They were having good time in the Moet suite at Arthur Ashe Stadium yesterday.

The 43-year-old looked to be enjoying the company of her companion – though spokesperson for the supermodel has refuted claims that Naomi and Maxwell are couple, that her relationship with the sensational singer is not anything more than platonic.

Gunmen Kidnap Anglican Archbishop in Rivers

Most Rev Ignatius Ogboru Kattey, the Dean, ArchBishop and Bishop of Niger Delta North Anglican Communion of Nigeria, was last night kidnapped by yet to be identified gunmen in Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers State.

The abduction happened at about 11.30pm Friday night.

The clergyman, along with his wife, Beatrice was captured on Aleto bridge, Eleme in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, but the wife was later found abandoned in their car.

The whereabouts of the archbishop remains unknown.

What a man can do…: Female Graduate leads 7-man robbery gang [PHOTOS]

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), has apprehended a seven-man robbery gang spearheaded by a woman, Chioma Ezekwesiri, in Lagos, south-west, Nigeria.

The suspects, 41-year-old Amadi Igwe,  24-year-old Raymond Chukwuka, 27-year-old Ignatius Okeredi, 52-year-old Michael Madu, 52, and 28-year-old Okechukwu Jerome, and Chioma were arrested while trying to rob Bolatito Hotel, located at Kola bus stop,in  Ijaiye area of Lagos.

According to Ezekwesiri, she had arranged for the guns with Raymond Chukwuka which they were supposed to use for the operation, which she insisted was a land matter, whereas the police said their mission was allegedly to rob a male customer of the hotel who also sells fertilizer of N8 million.

PM News reports;

The alleged robbery operation, according to the police, was foiled by some staff of the hotel, who promptly made a distress call to SARS operatives.

Jennifer Hudson was scared to play Winnie Mandela

Actress-singer Jennifer Hudson had admitted that she feared playing Winnie Mandela in a film.

The 31-year-old will be seen in the role of the wife of South African anti-apartheid revolutionary Nelson Mandela in the upcoming film "Winnie Mandela", reports contactmusic.com.

"I was very intimidated because she's such an iconic figure," Hudson said.

"Once I got to Africa, I was like, 'Wow, she's a national treasure ... I have to take this seriously'. And I thought, 'If I'm not going to hop in at 100 percent, maybe I should go home'. I actually had that moment where I was contemplating, 'Can I handle this?' and if I'm going to do it: 'Jennifer you have to be all in'," Hudson added.
