ASUU Strike: Students Threaten Clamp down on Private Universities

Believing that the prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), which has paralysed studies in public universities in the country is being sustained because the children of influential people in the country are ensconced in the private universities, some members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) are already contemplating attack on the private universities as a way of compelling the federal government to take a more urgent action in resolving the stalemate between ASUU and the government.
The students, operating under the umbrella of the NANS also staged a peaceful protest in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, to register their displeasure over federal government's alleged insincerity.
Speaking at the gathering Thursday, Mr. Steven Adara, a student leader in Ekiti State University (EKSU), noted that those in government and some prominent Nigerians were not helping the matter, as they were in the habit of sending their sons and daughters to private schools and overseas.

Pornography makes our movies real – Benson Okonkwo

In a recent interview, Enugu based actor, Benson Okonkwo was reported to have said there is nothing wrong in Nollywood releasing films that embraces nudity – to him, such scene make viewers believe what they watch.
Here is how he puts it;

My dear, it’s only a movie and make-believe, you know. We watch movies like that in Hollywood. Nigerians are hypocrites. I think pornography makes our movies more real. And for that reason I am in support of it. If you take a good look at Hollywood movies for example, you will notice that it is rampant and it means nothing to them.

The 40-year-old man, identified as Kailash, raped the girl who lives in his neighbourhood about a fortnight ago, police said.

“I’ve always had a crush on Pres. Jonathan” – Kenya’s BBA Rep, Alhuda Njoroge

While President Jonathan is en route to Kenya for a three day trip to boost bilateral and trade ties between the countries, 22-year-old model, Alhuda Njoroge has announced her readiness to bed the president.
Alhuda, popularly called ‘Huddah Monroe’ took to twitter to inquire when Jonathan’s aircraft would land because she has always had a crush on him.
“So when is Jonathan landing? I’ve always had a crush on him. Nigeria, prepare for a step mom,” the Kenyan Big Brother Africa contestant tweeted.
I think someone needs to advise Huddah that there is a Patience somewhere who is not patient with issues of this nature.

Anyway, that brings back a familiar question - ‘why are Kenyan ladies crazy about Nigerian men?’

AMAZING: Nigerian conjoined twins separated after 13-hour surgery in India [PHOTOS]

Nigerian conjoined twins separated after 13-hour surgery in Indian

Nigerian twins joined at the lower abdomen and hips were successfully operated upon and separated at the B.L. Kapur (BLK) super-speciality hospital after a 13-hour surgery.
The twin girls – Hussaina and Hassana Badaru shared their spinal cords, lower intestinal tract and genitourinary tracts. This meant that they had one common passage for fecal matter and another one for passing urine.
“The separation surgery took us 13 hours, with further surgery of five hours dedicated to reconstruction. The separation was a big challenge as they had unusual sharing of the alimentary canal and the nervous system,” said Prashant Jain, one of the experts performing the surgery.
“The girls were seven months old when they were brought to the BLK Hospital. They were suffering from ‘pygopagus’, a case in which the babies are joined at the sacral region and the hips. This is considered to be the rarest of rare case that occurs in 50,000 or 100,000 births,” said Praneet Kumar of BLK Hospital.

Marijuana, safer than painkillers — STUDY

Marijuana, safer than painkillers — STUDY

Believe it or not, but you could be safer ingesting marijuana - the most used illegal drug on Earth – than a prescription pain killer drug. Findings by a brand new first-of-its-kind global study conducted at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington, USA, showed that prescription pain killers, though legal, could be the deadliest drug of all.
A publication in The Lancet, revealed that marijuana, though often preferred to other illicit drugs of addiction such as cocaine, heroin and amphetamines are responsible for killing fewer persons than addictive painkillers such as Oxycontin and Vicodinbe.
Of a total of 78,000 drug deaths, prescription pain pills accounted for more than half. The study does not mention why marijuana has become the most popular drug, controversy over the legalisation of cannabis in some US states rages on.

Kerry Washington Covers Glamour Mag, Talks about her secret wedding to Nigerian Born NFL Player

Scandal and Django Unchained star Kerry Washington covers the October 2013 issue of Glamour Magazine. The movie star, who secretly tied the knot with Nigerian born NFL Player Nnamdi Asomugha, tells how she was able to pull off a wedding with no press around.

Below is an excerpt of the interview;

GM: OK, so relationships. In interview after interview, you always use the same phrase: “I don’t talk about my personal life.” I’m curious about the discipline that it requires to be so tight-lipped.
KW: I learned through experience that it doesn’t work for me to talk about my personal life. I’ve had earlier times in my career when I did talk about it. I was on the cover of a bridal magazine [InStyle Weddings, in 2005, when Washington was engaged to actor David Moscow]. But I couldn’t just turn around and say, “I only want to talk about the good stuff, but not the bad stuff.” So I just thought, OK, no more.
