Kiyo: The police has
confirmed the death of 12 of its personnel in a boat attack in Bayelsa state on
Friday. The security officers were on escort duties in the coastal state when
they were ambushed, police said on Sunday at a news conference.
The
ill-fated boat was heading to Azuzuama, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area for
the burial of the mother of Kile Torughedi, a Special Assistant to Bayelsa
Governor on Maritime Security.
Police
spokesperson, Kingsley Omire, said that a search party had been drafted to the
site and gave assurance that efforts were being made by divers to recover the
bodies of the policemen.
He
denied speculations that the attack was perpetrated by the Movement for the
Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND- which had earlier threatened to resume
attacks.
Filo: Sad news indeed.
