BRAIN TEASER: WHAT’S WRONG WITH THE BANNER?

Pregnant mother died after Trainee Surgeons took out her ovary instead of her appendix

Pregnant mother died after Trainee Surgeons took out her ovary instead of her appendix

The devastated husband of a young mother who died weeks after two trainee surgeons mistakenly took out an ovary instead of her appendix said today he had been “revolted” by their NHS experience.
Maria De Jesus, from Dagenham, was heavily pregnant when she developed pains in her stomach and was admitted to Queen’s Hospital, Romford.
Today her husband, Adelino De Jesus, 53, described the “litany of errors” which lead to her tragic death less than four weeks later on 11 November 2011.
He said: “She went to hospital with stomach pains and we were told she needed to have her appendix out. She had the operation, and left hospital eight days later, but the pain continued. We wouldn’t have ever imagined what they had done.”
Last week an inquest heard that tests carried out on the removed tissue revealed that it was one of her ovaries, not her appendix, on October 31.
But doctors at the hospital only realised the mistake on November 9, two days after when Mrs De Jesus, 32, was readmitted to the hospital and the day she miscarried.

Unilag students protest high cost of living

Students of the University of Lagos are protesting the high cost of living on campus.
According to reports the peaceful protest started yesterday, as the students bemoaned the high cost of food and other basic items on campus, saying it is disheartening that students are paying higher for food and other consumables than their prices outside campus. Abacha’s Daughter, Gumsu Causes Twitter Debate

Daughter of the late military dictator, Gen. Sani Abacha, Gumsu, took to twitter at 3:16am two days ago to pay tribute to her father, saying, “I miss you so much.”
“May Allah grant my father Aljanna Firdaus. I miss you so much. Fifteen years already.Allah ya jikan ka da rhama ‘Baba,’” she stated in a tweet.
A few hours after Gumsu posted the tweet, former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, replied her, saying, “Ameen.” Gumsu replied his tweet, saying, “Thank you,’’ while Fani-Kayode responded, “My pleasure, dear.’’

Fani-Kayode’s gesture confused his followers causing them to question if he benefited from the Abacha regime. Once it his tweets began to raise questions, Fani-Kayode swiftly dissociated himself from the Abacha regime. He said, “Of course not. I was not pro-Abacha government. I was one of those who fought his government.”

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four boys for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in the Mile 12 area of the state.
Punch Metro learnt that the suspects, Wale Badejo, Jubril Yusuf, Olusanya Remi and Wale Oluwafemi, who are between the ages 18 and 19, allegedly abducted the victim on her way to school and took turns raping her.
According to the police, the suspects held the victim for over seven hours and threatened to kill her if she told anybody about what happened to her.
A member of the victim’s family, who craved anonymity, said the incident occurred on May 30, 2013.
She said, “She (the victim) told us that one of the suspects, who also lived in the area, had been making sexual advances to her for sometime but she always rebuffed him. The boy (Oluwafemi) and her friends then vowed to deal with her, calling her a proud person.
“She schools at Maryland and because of the distance of the school from home, she leaves home around 6:30am every day.
“On the day of the incident, the boys came on two motorcycles, grabbed her and took her to Oluwafemi’s house at Agiliti.
“The boys blindfolded her and stuffed her mouth with cloth. The boys then took pictures of the barbaric act and made a video recording which they said they would upload on Facebook. The boys further threatened to kill her if she told anybody about what had happened.”
Punch Metro learnt that when the victim returned home, she did not inform her parents about what had transpired for fear of being killed.

PDP compels employees to take oath of secrecy

PDP compels employees to take oath of secrecy

The Peoples Democratic Party has administered an oath of secrecy to its members of staff as part of its efforts to control the flow of information in and outside the party.
The compulsory oath, which took many of the workers by surprise, was supervised on Thursday by the Acting National Secretary of the party, Chief Solomon Onwe.
Some of the workers, who spoke with our correspondent on Sunday, complained about the oath, which they said was aimed at victimising perceived enemies by some leaders of the party.
They said that some members of the National Working Committee of the PDP were not happy with them and had been doing everything possible to replace them with their loyalists.
The workers claimed that Onwe told them that anyone suspected to be fraternising with journalists might be summarily dismissed if the party found out that a piece of information was leaked by any of them.
One of the workers said, “On Thursday, we swore to an oath of secrecy which the party said was meant to control the flow of information at its secretariat.

Justin Bieber’s Bodyguard Under Investigation for Battery

Justin Bieber’s Bodyguard Under Investigation for Battery

Yet another member of Justin Bieber's entourage has landed in hot water again.
One of the pop singer's bodyguards is under investigation for misdemeanor battery against a person who was trying to take a picture of Bieber, 19, at a Hollywood hookah lounge, TMZ reports.
According to the website, when the photographer (not a professional or paparazzo) attempted to snap Bieber's picture, one of the singer's bodyguards stepped in, and a dust-up ensued. Police were called to the scene, but by the time they arrived, Bieber and his group had left.
Bieber is not a target in this investigation, but it's just the latest in a series of recent incidents involving him or his entourage bristling at unauthorized photographs taken of the singer. In April, the singer and his crew were banned from a Vienna nightclub after managers claim that his bodyguards smashed cameras, destroyed cell phones and groped some of the young female fans present.

Our correspondent learnt that the groom, who is from Ifaki-Ekiti in Ido-Osi Local Government Area of the state, was already in the church but waited in vain for the arrival of his bride.
Her whereabouts were unknown hours after the service had started.
The failure of the bride to show up, it was gathered, forced the clerics to cancel the wedding and invited guests reportedly left one after the other, when it dawned on them that the ceremony would no longer hold.
The Dean of the Cathedral, Very Reverend, F.O Bankole, when contacted on the telephone confirmed the incident to our correspondent.
He said, “It is true that a wedding which was planned to hold in the church today was cancelled. The bride did not show up.”

Bankole said he did not know why the bride failed to showed up, but added that the couple had been “having some issues since they started courting.”

I’m getting married soon — Benita Okojie

I’m getting married soon — Benita Okojie

In the 90s, Benita Okojie, at the tender age of 12, was a sensation as a gospel music child artiste.  Now 24, the multiple award winner relives the experience of stardom and adulthood

Child stars face a lot of pressures while growing up, did you experience such?

I did but the winning factor for me was the close relationship I had with God and my family.  I did not shut my loved ones out of my life. They are the ones who can tell me the truth about anything, no matter how big it is. I have a good relationship with my parents and I talk to them about everything. My mother, especially, was a pillar of strength for me and I was able to tell her a lot of things and she helped me through all the changes. I am a very spiritual being and I pray a lot.

How did you handle the superstar treatment in school?

The early stages of the job were very harsh on me. I had friends who just had issues with my person, not necessarily because I did anything wrong but because they felt that I was going around with a larger than life image. I do not think that was the situation but because I am out there, everybody wants to judge me based on what they don’t even know.  I thank God for my parents and my siblings who helped and supported me all the way. I made very good friends
