DO YOU KNOW: Today's Feature is ABRANTIE DANIEL AMAKYE DEDE


1. Abrantie Daniel Amakye Dede was born on January 5th, 1958 at Agogo in the Ashanti Region of Ghana; He is the youngest of nine siblings.

2. The young Daniel attended Agogo St. Augustine’s Middle School and completed in 1972.

3. Amakye Dede began his career in 1973 when he joined the Kumapim Royals as a composer and vocalist. Led by the legendary highlife singer, Akwasi Ampofo Agyei, they had hits like 'Abebi Bewua Eso', 'Wanware Me A', 'Odo Mani Agyina' and 'Ohohoo Batani'.
 Amakye Dede later moved to Nigeria where he had his hit 'Jealousy go shame'.

4. He is one of Ghana’s premier hi-life artistes and is affectionately called ‘Iron Boy’ or ‘Abrantie’ which means Gentleman, a name he got from the making of his first record with his mentor Akwasi Ampofo Agyei in 1975.

5. He owns a very popular bar in Accra called Abrantie Spot, where he helps celebrate live-band music; the bar is being managed by his wife, Mrs. Mary Amakye-Dede.

6. In 1980, Abrantie formed the Apollo High Kings and has over 25 all-time hit albums to his credit. He is best known for songs including 'Daba Dabi Ebe Ye Yie', 'Sokoo Na Mmaa Pe', 'Iron Boy', 'Seniwa', 'Brebrebe Yi', among others.

7. Abrantie Daniel Amakye Dede is married to Mrs. Mary Amakye-Dede, and their union is blessed with four children. According to Mrs Mary, she met the highlife legend when she migrated to Accra from her hometown, Asante Akyem Agogo, where she completed her education at the old 'form-four' level.

8. In 1994, The Entertainment Critics & Reviewers Association of Ghana (ECRAG) conferred on the high life legend ECRAG MUSIC AMBASSADOR.
9. In 2010, Amakye Dede put up what was described as “the best show of 2010” when he performed non-stop for over six hours at the 'Abrantie Amakye Dede Live In Concert'.

10. In 2011 when he turned 53, the evergreen highlife musician made a stimulating confession - he said he was struggling to quit smoking. 'I smoke now but too much for some time {sic} like five sticks I know [its harmful] that is why am planning to quit even now. I am assuring you that from here, you won't see Amakye Dede smoking,' he said.
