Kano State Conducts Mass Wedding for 1,111 Widows & Divorcees, 35 women fail wedding test over HIV, Pregnancy

Thirty-five women were, yesterday, disqualified by the Kano State Hisbah Board from participating in the mass wedding organised and sponsored by the state government.

Those disqualified included 19 divorcees said to have tested positive to HIV and 16 others said to be pregnant.

Altogether, at least 1, 111 divorcees and widows from the 44 local government areas in the state were joined in matrimony at the City Central Mosque during a brief but colourful ceremony.

It is another round of mass wedding conducted by the Chief Imam of Kano Central Mosque, Professor Muhammad Zaharadeen.

The event was attended by the state Deputy Governor, Dr Umar Ganduje, along with top Islamic clerics across the state.

Nollywood Actress Mercy Aigbe weds hubby, Lanre Gentry at Ikoyi Registry [PICZ]

Don’t get it twisted! Mercy Aigbe and husband, Lanre Gentry actually had their traditional wedding few years ago but now the couple decided to make it legal by having a court wedding. The court wedding held at the Ikoyi Registry in Lagos. Mercy and Lanre have a 3-year-old son together.

World’s tallest man gets married to woman who is 2 feet, 7 inches shorter [PHOTOS]

World’s tallest man, Sultan Kosen from Turkey has married a Syrian woman, Merve Dibo whom he described as the “love of my life”.

Kosen, 30, who stands at a massive 8-foot-3, got married to Dibo, 20, on Saturday in his native Turkey – the bride is about 5-foot-6 tall.

“I am the happiest man in the world,” he was quoted as saying on the website of the state-run Anatolia news agency.

His 20-year-old bride Mervi Dibo, who hails from the Syrian town of Hasaka, added: “I hope this happiness will be long-lasting.”

The groom’s black suit was custom made, requiring six meters of fabric, Anatolia reported.

Born into a farming family in southeastern Turkey, Kosen won global fame in September 2009 when Guinness World Records declared him the tallest man in the world.

Two years after loosing his wife of 40 years, Eudora, to cancer, 72 year old billionaire businessman and chairman of Champion newspaper, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu has given marriage a second shot.

Chief Iwuanyanwu married 26 year old Frances Chinonyerem Enwerem, the daughter of one of his late wife's close friends, on Saturday September 14th (traditional wedding) and this past Saturday September 21st (white wedding) in Owerri, Imo State.

The new bride, who doesn't have the blessings of the Chief's children (mostly because of the age gap) is said to be expecting her first child with the extremely rich businessman cum politician.

Chief Iwuanyanwu has his hands in various businesses cutting across over 20 sectors of the economy. He is the founder of the Iwuanyanwu Football club now known as the Heartland FC.

Derek Andrew Safo, popularly known as Sway tied the knot this past weekend with his long time girlfriend Helen.

The 31-year-old rapper, who is signed to Akon’s Konvict Muzik record label, shared the news with his followers on Twitter, saying the celebration was one of the best nights of his life.

In attendance at the traditional marriage ceremony were singer Fuse ODG, comedian Eddie Kadi and Choice FM’s DJ Abrantee, who also entertained guests at the ceremony.

When Governor Suswam becomes Bestman to a Cook [PHOTO]

Thenation: For Peter Anyiman, a cook serving Catholic Priest, Rev. Father Michael Tumba, his wedding last Saturday at Our Lady Perpetual Help Cathedral, Makurdi, Benue State, was made just a lit bit more special by the fact that his best man was Governor Gabriel Suswam.

Suswam told the guests at the wedding reception which was held at the same venue that the groom who had served Tumba in Abuja for 18 years had demonstrated commitment to his job and deserved to be honoured. He advised people to take their jobs seriously.

Putting his advice to practice, the governor took time to adjust the groom’s tie and wipe sweat from his face to the admiration of the guests who attended the ceremony.

Anyiman said he considered himself lucky to have the governor serve as his best man and could not have wished for a better wedding gift.

Comedian Ushbebe of AY’s Crib set to wed November

Comedian/presenter, Justice Emonaerere Nuagbe, popularly known as Ushbebe is set to wed his long time girlfriend, Annette Osa-Agbontaen who is a graduate of International Studies.

Their traditional marriage will hold next month while the white wedding will hold on the 23rd of November, both in Benin.

Oba Abiodun Oniru’s Son, Mustapha Weds His Hearththrob Kirsty Crooks [PHOTOS]

 

Yesterday (Thursday) was a special day for Prince Mustapha Oniru of Lagos and his bride, Kirsty Crooks from Northern Ireland.

The couple tied the knot at a royal wedding in Loughgall Presbyterian Church, Northern Ireland – the Prince’s father HRM Oba Idowu Abiodun Oniru and Queen Olori Arike Oniru attended the service which was conducted by Rev Philip McKelvey.

The royal couple are due to travel to Monaco and then St Tropez for their honeymoon, but plan to set up a base in Northern Ireland.

Kirsty met Mustapha while teaching at the British International School, which is owned by Oba Oniru. Meanwhile, her husband, who just finished a Masters Degree in Marketing, is the school administrator.
