Obiwon Opens Up on Why He Dropped R&B for Gospel Music

Obiwon Opens Up on Why He Dropped R&B for Gospel Music

In a recent interview with Punch, Obiora Nwokolobia-Agu, popularly known as Obiwon tells why he ditched R&B for gospel music.

Excerpts;
Why did you transit from R&B to gospel?
After recording some successes on my first album, I found myself right in the thick of a celebrity/ fame lifestyle. I wasn’t yet a practising Christian but I found myself often pondering if I could possibly end up well or ever lead a good life with the way things were going. Secondly, studying the personal lives of a couple of music icons, who were my role models at the time, was scary because they all had terrible endings.  Also, things hadn’t exactly gone as planned in my career despite some successes. All these drove me to seek God and answers. Eventually, I gave my life to Christ and became born again. For me, it was first, a step of faith, as the answer to the kind of life I desired while pursuing an entertainment career.

Deposed Deji of Akure Says ‘I’ve Learnt My Lessons, Reinstate Me’

The deposed Deji of Akure, Oluwadare Adepoju Adesina, has pleaded with the Ondo State government to vacate the deposition and banishment orders placed on him in 2010.
The deposed monarch based his appeal on lessons learnt from the ordeal, saying he was more prepared to return to the throne of his forefathers since it was the turn of the Adesina house to produce the next Deji.
His appeal is also sequel to the death of the former Deji, Oba Adebiyi Adesida, who died last month at the age of 63 after having reigned for only three years after Adesina’s deposition.
In a letter dated December 19 by his counsel, Sola Oke and addressed to the State Executive Council, Adesina said many of the allegations levelled against him that led to his deposition were as a result of gap in communication and information management.

Timaya still sees me as a threat – Oritse Femi

Oritsefemi Majemite, simply known as Oritse Femi, in a recent interview with Vanguard, talks about his journey from the shanty settlements of Ajegunle to limelight; and how Timaya sees him as a threat.

Excerpts

If you hadn’t hit the limelight would you have still remained in Ajegunle full time?
I will move to anywhere in the world. Like I said earlier on, the world is like a circle you must learn how to move around but ‘Aje’ is still my hood and I still have a belief in it.

What inspired ‘Mercies of Da Lord’?
I was born and brought up in the ways of the Lord but because of worldly things, I derailed. But my mum, who is highly religious and Godly, brought it back. There was a low time in my life when I felt so depressed but my mum with her inspiration woke the spirit of God back in me. I was so filled with the spirit to the extent I never thought possible.

I fasted for 10 months to become governor – Amaechi

Rivers State Governor and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Rotimi Amaechi has said God, and not man, installed him as the state governor because he fasted and prayed for 10 months before he became the governor.
Amaechi said rather than chase criminals away from the state, the police had decided to shoot innocent citizens.
The governor, who spoke at Saint Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, said insecurity in the state was growing because the police had failed to do their job in an unbiased manner.
Maintaining that his government was installed by Jesus Christ, Amaechi urged the people to disregard those who claimed to be responsible for his emergence as the governor of the state.
