How suicide bombers who planned to disrupt Ethiopia vs Nigeria game blew up themselves

The Ethiopian government has announced that two suicide bombers who had planned to disrupt Sunday’s World Cup qualifier between Ethiopia and Nigeria in Addis Ababa accidentally blew themselves up before carrying out the attack.
Nigeria defeated their hosts 2-1 at the packed National Stadium in a first leg play-off game for Brazil 2014.
On Monday, the government opened up on the failed plot and stated that the explosion happened in the upscale Bole district of the capital, about 5 km (3 miles) from Addis Ababa Stadium where thousands of fans were gathering for the match.
The Nigerian team stayed at Saro-Maria Hotel in the Bole district not far from the airport.
"They were Somali nationals and plotted to carry out a suicide attack disguised as fans on either the stadium or areas where large crowds gathered to watch the game," government spokesman Shimeles Kemal was quoted by Reuters.

Family of slain Nigerian student in Cyprus cries out for justice

The family of a Nigerian student, who was killed in the North Cyprus city of Nicosia, has cried out to the Federal Government and relevant authorities for intervention.
Gabriel Soriwei, 20, a first year student of Electrical/Electronic/Engineering at the Cyprus International University, Nicosia, was allegedly knocked down by a female driver on July 13.
The impact of the accident caused Mr. Soriwei to fall into a coma; he eventually died on September 7, his family said.
Five days later, the Cyprus International University authorities flew his remains back to Nigeria via the same Turkish Airline with which he travelled to Cyprus in February.
“While the family has accepted the reality of the painful loss of our child, his death has raised some issues about the value placed on the life of the Nigerian outside the shores of this country,” the family said in a statement signed by Patrick Soriwei, the deceased’s father.

Aregbesola cautioned over schools’ classification •Merging of schools regressive - Omisore

Following the reactions trailing the recent classification of schools in Osun State by the administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola, the Old Students’ Association of Baptist High School (BHS), Iwo, has asked the governor to thread softly so as to avoid unnecessary imbroglio.
The association maintained that any sustainable policy should not engender acrimony as the current education policy in the state has generated and insisted that the governor should have a rethink since it has now shown that lack of public debate before the policy was finally made had made it unpopular.
National President of the association and an Associate Professor of Education at the University of Ibadan, Oyesoji Aremu, expressed this view with newsmen in his Ibadan office at the weekend.

Gideon Okeke plays the character of Philip Ade-Williams in MNet’s popular TV series, Tinsel, and is also a former housemate in the Big Brother Nigeria Reality TV show in 2009. He takes Joan Omionawele through his childhood days in Ajegunle and his journey into the world of fame. Excerpts

You announced sometime ago that you were jetting off with your music career. We haven’t heard anything from you.
That’s basically because I’ve been busy. I am so busy with film now. If you check my Twitter biography, it states “the actor”. My hands are full. Music is another career path that is as time-consuming as the movies are. To be honest, I am not done with what I am doing yet. I hope to be able to incorporate my music-in-film – that is, musicals and stuff like that; but to set records straight, I wouldn’t do music for commercial sake.

BBC Found Nine Missing Episodes of “Doctor Who” in a Cupboard in Nigeria

BBC Found Nine Missing Episodes of “Doctor Who” in a Cupboard in Nigeria

Nine long-lost episodes of Doctor Who, which have not been seen since the 1960s, have been recovered after they were tracked down gathering dust in a store room in Nigeria.
BBC says it has recovered nine episodes of the sci-fi series and two others in the storeroom of a television station in Nigeria.
Doctor Who was first broadcasted in 1963 and remains one of BBC’s most popular programs.
Some early episodes were lost because the broadcaster wiped the tapes clean for re-use.
The BBC says the lost episodes were tracked down by tracing records of overseas shipments of BBC tapes for transmission.

The recovered episodes date from 1967 and 1968 and feature Patrick Troughton, the second of a dozen actors to play the show’s time-travelling hero.
