President Goodluck Jonathan has been
conferred with the highest honour of the Republic of Mali for his resolute
stand in ensuring entrenchment of democratic government following the coup
d’état of March 22, 2012.
Malian Interim President, Prof Diongunda
Traore, personally conferred the Dignity of the Highest Cross of the National
Honour of Mali on President Jonathan on Thursday, at a brief ceremony held at
the Council Chamber, State House, Abuja.
President Traore, in his brief remarks, said
the government and people of Mali appreciate and will forever remain grateful
to President Jonathan for Nigeria’s timely intervention and support during the
country’s trying period.
He said despite Nigeria’s internal security
challenge, President Jonathan still went ahead to commit human and material
resources to fighting the rebels and entrenching democracy in Mali.
