Staffs
of telecommunications company, Starcomms, have threatened to file a legal
action against the company’s over its refusal to pay their outstanding two
months’ salary.
The
workers had last month in a protest letter published by DailyPost, accused the
management of unjust treatment in the handling of their welfare.
According
to them, days after the report on their plight, the management called a meeting
to avail members of staff the opportunity to ask questions about the state of
the organization.
But
in a new statement, they allege that “Instead of the Chief Executive Officer
and his team to bow their heads in shame and appeal to the disgruntled, loyal
and dedicated staffs, he simply displayed his incompetence in running the
affairs of the organization by either avoiding or redirecting questions put to
him to other top notch collaborators.”
The
workers also said that the CEO further displayed inconsideration by saying he
owes no one an apology.
Continuing,
the statement said that the management has come up with a “ridiculous
proposition for members of staff to apply/go for sabbatical leave without pay,”
adding that it however refused to make it official as there is no provision for
it in the Starcomms Plc Policy handbook.
They
maintained that the move may not be unconnected with the ulterior motive of the
management.
“For
the records, we refuse to be intimidated and reiterate our resolute in pressing
on our demands and state our positions which are as follows:
DEMANDS
1.
Immediate payment of our full 2 (going to 3) months salaries, namely March and
April (May to join soon).
2.
Management must stop ostensible diversion and misappropriation of company’s
fund for personal aggrandizements.
3.
All forms of imperialism and nepotism in Starcomms Plc must stop.
4.
Conclusion of unresolved issues of gratuity, tax remittance, leave allowances,
overtime, staff promotions and non-remittance of staff pension since June 2012.
5.
We demand Communication from the management on the future of the company and
members of staff without further delay.
POSITIONS
“The
management of Starcomms Plc. as flagrantly flouted the NIGERIA LABOUR ACT, PART
I (General Provisions as to Protection of Wages, Contracts of Employees and
Terms & Conditions of Employment), SECTION 15 (Periodicity of Payment of
Wages) and other applicable sections and subsections, as well as the Salary
Administration Policy 005 of the Starcomms Plc Policy handbook.
“Recall
of TAOFEEK ADEGOKE who was unjustly suspended by the management of Starcomms
Plc for daring to confront the management with the grievances of disgruntled
and demoralized members of staff.
“There
shall be no back down until our demands are absolutely acceded to and true
justice is done to the prevailing issues.
“Failure
to comply with our demands, all lawful actions according to the constitution of
Federal Republic of Nigeria, with respect to the matters at hand, shall be
taken accordingly against the Management of Starcomms Plc.
