Airport worker resigns with his resignation letter iced onto a cake




Kiyo: Have you heard of cake resignation letter before? Well, that was exactly what Chris Holmes, a passport control employee at Stansted Airport did.
He wanted to leave his part-time airport job on good terms, so he baked a cake and iced it with his entire resignation letter.
Holmes decided to leave his passport control job because he wanted to devote himself to his business and his new family.

Aki stars in new MNET drama series




Filo: Chinedu Ihedieze popularly known as Aki said he had just taken part in the shooting of a TV sitcom for MNET, an exotic blend of comedy and family drama titled The Johnsons.
Although he did not say if his alter-ego, Osita Iheme, was a member of the cast of The Johnsons, Aki seemed assured that the sitcom would ‘steal the show’ from other TV soap operas currently running on MNET channels and draw a lot of attention from the viewers.

Filo: The Gangnam Style rapper is set to make history again as the music video for his new single "Gentleman" is fast becoming a global sensation. Four days after it was released, Gentleman music video is close to 115 million YouTube hits as of early Wednesday morning.

Kiyo: This guy is simply unstoppable; it took Gangnam Style more than 50 days to surpass the same amount of views.

Beyoncé begins 'Mrs Carter Show' world tour




Filo: Beyoncé, 31, kicked off her ‘Mrs Carter Show’ world tour on Monday evening in Belgrade, Serbia, where she stunned concert goers in a gold sequin-encrusted bodysuit adorned with a pair of trompe l'oeil breasts - complete with protruding nipples.
The singer has 64 more shows on the tour which will see her travel across Europe, North America and South America.

Kiyo: The fans expected her to do a new song to herald the possible release of her fifth studio album, but they went home disappointed after the over two hours show.
Or maybe she's waiting for the American leg.

Matt Damon and wife Luciana renew their marital vows in intimate beachfront ceremony



Filo: After eight years of marriage, Matt Damon and wife Luciana Barrosso renewed their wedding vows in a romantic ceremony on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia.
Matt and Luciana Damon met in a Miami bar in 2003. She was working as a bartender at the bar, while he was shooting his comedy flick Stuck on You. Two years later, the lovebirds became husband and wife with a winter wedding in New York.
The couple have gone on to raise four beautiful daughters together, Isabella, six, Gia, four, two-year-old Stella, and Luciana's daughter Alexia, 14, from a previous relationship.

Dangote To Build $8 Billion Refinery


Filo: Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has announced plans to construct an $8 billion refinery in Nigeria later this year, according to a report by Nigeria’s Leadership newspaper.
Dangote made the announcement last week in Lagos during a breakfast meeting with some senior editors of various Nigerian media organizations to commemorate his 57th birthday. While Dangote did not disclose the planned location of the facility or its capacity, he said his Dangote Group, will start work on the refinery as soon as the company secures final approval from the federal government and other related agencies.

Kiyo: Shrewd businessman, he would obviously get a consortium to finance the project, which invariably would mitigate tax liability because of interest charges; and Nigerians would celebrate him for creating employment opportunities, which in turn would garner more goodwill for his business group. At the end, it is still the rich getting richer.

Kiyo: Chiejine Onochie, a former servant at the palace of the traditional ruler of Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, where the mother of the Minister of Finance was kidnapped has confessed that he gave the kidnappers the necessary information for the job.
Onochie also said the kidnappers collected N13m as ransom before the 83-year-old Prof. Kamene Okonjo was released last December; however he claimed the kidnappers did not give him any money and therefore, was not culpable.

Filo: Guy, since you gave out requisite information needed by the kidnappers you are an accomplice, so no excuse.

WAEC withheld his results five times, now LASPOTECH’s best student




Kiyo: Bakare Opeoluwa’s courage to stand strong in the face of adversity is legendary. Five times, he sat for the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination and five times his results were withheld. Not because he was involved in any examination malpractice, but for reasons best known to the West African Examination Council.
After his sixth attempt, his full result was however released. He cleared all his papers and applied to the university to read Computer Engineering, his dream discipline. But this was not to be, as his score was below the cut-off point. That is why he opted for polytechnic education and eventually got admission to study Computer Engineering at the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu.
But in spite of his challenges, Bakare, who had lost his father, graduated on Thursday as the best LASPOTECH graduating student during the institution’s 21st convocation. With a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.97 out of a possible 4.0, Bakare bagged a Higher National Diploma certificate in Computer Engineering. He also made history by becoming the all-time best graduate of the polytechnic.

Bomb Blast in Boston




Kiyo: Boston police said there was a third explosion Monday near the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library after twin blasts at the city’s annual marathon killed at
least two people. “There was a third explosion at the JFK library,” Police Chief Ed Davis told a press conference. He said he did not know of anyone being wounded in the third blast, or whether any of the explosions were part of a terrorist attack.

Kiyo: Coming on the heels of Saturday show of shame, the media and social networks are inundated with all manner of vituperations and backlash, noticeably are some not too good comments targeted at Solomon Akiyesi’s colleague, Lancelot Imasuen who was also at the wedding. However, Lancelot in a bid to defend his presence said he was just an invited guest not the wedding planner. “For sure many are the affliction of the righteous ,,,,,but God delivers him from them all, see how I pay a wonderful prize for FAME, an invited guest to a wedding suddenly becomes the chief wedding planner,,,” he said.
In a related development, Akiyesi has deactivated his facebook account; like they say ‘if you can’t take the heat, don’t go near the kitchen’

Delta to get additional 100 police divisions




Kiyo: Delta State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, has said that additional 100 police divisional headquarters would be created to check the wave of armed robbery, kidnapping and other anti-social vices in the state.
Aduba, in Ughelli, while commissioning the perimeter fencing project embarked upon by the Ughelli Area Command, said the police was equal to the task of policing the state.

Filo: We pray you also equip the divisional headquarters with well-trained policemen.

Kiyo: Snoop Lion and Ke$ha walked on stage at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night smoking what appeared to be a cannabis joint.
They passed it back and forth during their presentation and left it up to the audience to decide what they were really puffing.
While it was difficult to tell whether it was marijuana or tobacco in the spliff, 26-year-old Ke$ha's facial expressions seem to suggest the former.

Filo: Look at Ke$ha’s eyes! This is a “No”, irrespective of what they were smoking, considering the fact that majority of the audience are minors.

Fake Chinese condoms hit Ghanaian market, Nigerians Beware

Filo: Ghana’s food and drug regulatory body, Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), on Monday alerted the public that it had seized a large consignment of poor quality and substandard BE SAFE condoms imported from China.
The packaging of the product has no manufacturer’s name and address but only an inscription- Manufactured in P.R.C.
The FDA in a press release said seven batches of the Be Safe condoms failed to meet quality standards when tested at the FDA’s Medical Devices Laboratories.
The condoms were found to contain visible holes and burst easily under pressure and thus can easily break during sex.

Kiyo: Calling on NAFDAC to be on alert, we have different types of Be Safe condoms in the market.

Nine best pupils can’t write their names – Commissioner

Kiyo: Commissioner for Education, Akwa Ibom State, Mrs. Eunice Thomas, has said that nine pupils from public primary schools in the state, who had distinctions in First School Leaving Certificate examinations, were unable to write their names after a further test was conducted on them.
Thomas said the revelation was made when the governor, Mr. Godswill Akpabio, directed all heads of schools to bring the best pupils from FSLC examination, one in each of the 31 local government areas of the state, to a designated school, where they were re-examined.
She said, “We conducted a pre-test and say let’s introduce subjective questions, and not objective questions that one person will stand in the exam hall and just call out A or B to the candidates and they all will mark the correct answer.
“At the end, we realised that the child that scored 100 per cent could not score five per cent”

Filo: The teachers are not left out, Mrs Eunice also said “The state government conducted an Aptitude Test using the same syllabus for the students to test the teachers; honestly 60 per cent of the teachers were unable to pass the examination”

Electricity consumers to pay ₦50,000 for pre-paid metres




Kiyo: According to feelers from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, effective April 25th electricity consumers are expected to cough out between ₦25,000 and ₦50,000 for pre-paid metres for the single phase and three phase models, respectively, under the new Credited Advance Pay for Metering Implementation, (CAPMI) scheme.
CAPMI became necessary following complaints by consumers about poor electricity service delivery in the face of continued estimated billing by Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN.
Under CAPMI, the Commission also disclosed that five Distribution Companies, DISCOs, will be used for the pilot scheme. They include Eko, Ibadan, Benin, Kano and Abuja DISCOs.

Filo: As if pre-paid metres would guarantee steady power supply, besides we’ve always paid for metres before the government declared it was‘free’.

PSY, whose real name is Park Jae-sang, said on Saturday that he regretted the current tensions between the two Koreas that he hopes North Koreans will enjoy his music even as tensions remain high on the Korean Peninsula.
