Miss USA 2013 – Miss Connecticut Erin Brady is crowned the winner (PHOTOS)

Miss Connecticut Erin Brady was crowned the 2013 Miss USA on Sunday.

The 25-year-old beauty queen beat out 50 other contestants, including first runner-up Mary Margaret McCord of Alabama, to win the highly-coveted title.

Brady takes the honor from Nana Meriwether, who inherited the top spot from last year’s winner Olivia Culpo, after she went on to win Miss Universe.

The pageant, hosted by Giuliana Rancic and Nick Jonas, featured celebrity judges including “Real Housewives” star Nene Leakes and “The Voice” correspondent Christina Milian.

The event, which held in the weekend was organised by Wisdom For Women International a UK based organisation in collaboration with Connecting Hearts Initiative. The goal was to pay tribute to the Achievement of Christian Women in Nigeria

Achebe a revolutionary author – Obama, Michelle

President Barack Obama of the United States of America (USA) and his wife, Michelle, have described the late Prof. Chinua Achebe as “a revolutionary author, educator and cultural ambassador.”

They stated this in a letter to the Achebe family, which was read at an event held in honour of Achebe in Washington DC last Sunday, tagged, “A Celebration of Life.” The event also featured an arts exhibition.

The letter, which was read at the event by a White House representative said, “a revolutionary author, educator and cultural ambassador, Chinua Achebe shattered the conventions of literature and shaped the collective identity of Nigerians throughout the world.

Omawunmi, Okposo, Others for Anny's Peace and Love Concert

Plans are in top gear as various Nigerian Gospel celebrities prepare for an event which is set to be one of the biggest peace concerts of recent times – Anny Peace and Love Concert.

Scheduled to take place at Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos on Saturday June 29, 2013, the event will feature Anny alongside Sammie Okposo, Omawunmi, Tosin Martins, KSB, Bouqui, Midnight Crew, Tim Godfrey, Oritsefemi and Niki Laoye. Others are Frand Edwards, Vivian Stephens and Solomon Lange. The event will be hosted by MC Abbey and Lolo 1.
