Joy Bewaji Finally Apologises to Makosi (The Hunter is Now The Hunted)

Last time, we reported that Zimbabwean star Makosi has sought the services of a legal team to address the issue of plagiarism raised against her by Joy Bewaji.
A statement was issued by Makosi’s legal team refuting the claim that she published Joy’s material, “Self-Love: The ultimate choice” without her consent. (Check here)
As it appears, the table has turned, the hunter is now the hunted, and Joy had to chew her words.
Here’s a statement issued on Monday by Joy Bewaji

“To address the issues concerning the presentation of the book: “Self Love: The Ultimate Choice” by Makosi, it is imperative to state that there was an absolute breakdown in communication at some point that resulted to a misunderstanding, which escalated to shock, anger and a total fall-out,” her statement read.

In a statement issued by a lawyer representing Makosi, Joy was alleged to have received the sum of $9,200 at one point, $1,500 at another and $2,100 (totalling $12,800) to ghost-write the book.

Renowned Ghanaian Poet, Prof. Awoonor killed in Kenya mall attack

Renowned Ghanaian poet and statesman Kofi Awoonor was among the 59 people confirmed dead in an attack by Somali Islamist militants on a Nairobi shopping mall, Ghana's president said Sunday.
Awoonor, 78, was killed and his son was wounded at the Westgate mall, Ghana's Deputy Information Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu said. Awoonor had been due to appear at the Storymoja Hay literary festival in Nairobi on Saturday.
Kwame Dawes, a cousin of Awoonor as well as a poet who was in Nairobi at the time of the attack, said Awoonor and his son were not together when the shooting started. "I think the son went to pick up something at the mall. Professor Awoonor was in the parking garage waiting for him," Dawes, a professor in the United States who is editing Awoonor's latest poetry collection, told AFP by telephone. "The son was shot while he was inside the mall. We don't know at what point the professor was shot," Dawes said.

Chimamanda Disses Caine Prize, Abubakar replies ‘Go F**k Yourself’

Chimamanda Disses Caine Prize, Abubakar replies ‘Go F**k Yourself’

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has sparked what could be described as“the battle of Africa’s Literary Giants”. Kiyoandfilo gathered that the author of ‘Americana’ in a recent interview, made nonsense of the Caine Prize for African Writing, which was won by Nigerian writer Tope Folarin.
In the interview conducted by American graduate student and blogger Aaron Bady, Chimamanda also made reference to another Ngerian writer Elnathan John, as “one of my boys”

Here is an excerpt;

Elnathan was one of my boys in my workshop. But what’s all this over-privileging of the Caine Prize, anyway? I don’t want to talk about the Caine Prize, really. I suppose it’s a good thing, but for me it’s not the arbiter of the best fiction in Africa. It’s never been. I know that Chinelo is on the short list, too. But I haven’t even read the stories—I’m just not very interested. I don’t go to the Caine Prize to look for the best in African fiction…I go to my mailbox, where my

A POET has declared he is selling his testicles to fund a holiday.
Madcap Raffael Medina Brochero claims he is flogging his male parts for £12,800 (₦3,268,441.60) so he can tour Europe with his poetry.
He told a radio host in his home of Magdalena, Colombia, that he will give his private parts to the first person to pay his price.
Brochero said his decision came after a 2012 South America tour left him broke. And he wants to avoid a repeat of his money woes in Europe.
The Colombian poet has published 11 books during his 35-year career.

On his website he states he sometimes wears his trouser legs at different lengths to “denounce social inequality”.

President Mahama’s Tribute To Chinua Achebe

President Mahama’s Tribute To Chinua Achebe

Ghana’s President John Mahama, in his tribute to the late literary icon, recognizes the impact of Prof Chinua Achebe’s literary works on writers as well as political leaders. Talking about Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, the President wrote “This literature empowered me and others to believe in our ability to create change”

Here is the full text

In the same way that Chinua Achebe’s books helped foster the talent of countless writers in Africa’s post-colonial era, they also inspired a number of africa’s current political leaders.
Achebe had such influence on the african political landscape that three years ago he started convening an annual colloquium at brown University, where he was a professor, that brought together leaders, scholars and artists to discuss “strengthening democracy and peace on the african continent”.
When I was introduced to Mr. Achebe’s writing in the 1970s, during secondary school, there seemed to be no discernable separation in Africa between politics and the arts. We attended demonstrations almost as frequently as we attended discos. The music that we listened to, from Fela Kuti to James Brown, was filled with racial pride and political protest.
