The O'odua People’s Congress (OPC) at the
weekend admonished the presidency to keep an eye on Major Hamza Al-Mustapha,
the former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the late Head of State, General
Sanni Abacha, who was recently discharged and acquitted by the Court of Appeal
in Lagos.
In a statement issued by the Osun State
Coordinator and Secretary of the OPC, Mr. Oyeyinka Awoyemi and Mr. Waheed
Olaniyan respectively, the group said the federal government should ensure that
al-Mustapha was kept under security watch despite being discharged and
acquitted of his alleged offences by the court.
According to the statement, “Though the
judgment of the appeal court in Lagos has exonerated al-Mustapha, it must be
noted that the case at the court was not diligently prosecuted as there was
element of bias in it.
"...Though killed, the spirit of the
late Kudirat Abiola will continue to demand justice even beyond this realm.
“We are now sounding a serious warning to the
federal government not to allow Al-Mustapha let loose, as he is capable of
returning to his vomit. At least, it is said that ‘leopard never changes its
colour’.”
