In a recent interview, “One Night” singer, Specimen
talks about his music and dreams.
See excerpts;
How did
you come about the name Specimen a.k.a Lyrical Avatar and what does it mean?
I got the idea during a biology class. A
specimen means an example and in music, we experiment with different tunes.
So, without a specimen the experiment isn’t
complete. Now I can say I am a specimen of good music i.e. a sample of the best
and an example to the rest.
How did
you discover your musical abilities?
Music has always been part of me. I have
being singing and miming other people’s songs since I was in primary school
until I started writing my own songs in SSS1.
Earliest
inspiration?
Back in primary school, I was the only one
out of all my peers who could sing most songs till the end and the people would
gather round to hear me sing. Though I was just miming but they recognised the
fact that I had the potentials.
When
and how did you start?
I started music professionally in 2012. I had
no support at that time so I had to work in order to foot the studio bills and
that was precisely a year after secondary school.
How did
making music professionally start for you?
To be honest, it was harder than I imagined.
Lots of challenges, but amidst all, I thank God.
What
kind of music do you do?
Basically, I do hip-hop but sometimes I delve
into other genres of music. I just love being versatile, cause variety is the
spice of life.
What
songs are you releasing or dropping now?
I have a new song titled ‘One night’.
Tell us
the concept of the song?
The song goes out to everyone who has gone
wrong at one point in their relationships. One night stands for a second
chance.
What
are your plans for the future?
To keep doing music, gain a lot of
recognition both locally and internationally and pass a message across to
anyone every time and anywhere.
What
should fans expect from you?
They should expect a new me, filled with a
lot of energy and ability to deliver as always.
What
challenges do you face as an upcoming artiste?
As an upcoming artiste, people tend to look
down on you and disappoint you. Also, there is the monetary aspect but I thank
God for my management, TTG, and those who believe in me for their love and
support.
