Two Children Machete Mother to Death in Edo

Barely two weeks after a retired soldier macheted his wife to death for not allowing him to take a second wife, two children identified as Omolayo Ojeifo (25) and her younger brother, Taiye (20), at the weekend killed their mother, Mrs. Itowo Ojeifo in Lampese.
The community is a boundary town with Kogi State in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
It was learnt that Omolayo had been having some running disagreement with her mother, whom she allegedly accused of stalling her “progress in life” as well as bewitching her.
Ironically, Omolayo was said to have apologised to her mother few days to the incident, pleading for forgiveness that she was misled into believing that her mother was responsible for her ill fortunes.

Housemaid jailed 28 years for stealing N35m jewellery

A housemaid, Mary John, has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for stealing her mistress’ jewellery estimated at N35m.
The 30-year-old woman slumped moments after hearing the sentence, hitting her head against the carpeted surface of the court room.
The impact shook the walls of the court room, but she was quickly resuscitated and carried out by prison warders.
The convict had been arraigned since September 2012 on four counts of conspiracy, entry, breaking and stealing.
Her mistress, Mrs. Esohe Kadiri, a lawyer, said she stole wristwatches valued at N9m, bangles and bracelets worth N10m, diamond set worth N8m, rings worth N3m, chains and pendants worth N5m, and a camera priced at N100, 000, which all totalled N35, 100,000.
The theft was said to have occurred in July 2012 at her residence in Victoria Garden City, Ajah.

Man jailed six months for stealing ₦6,000 phone


A 28-year-old man, Lucky Matthew, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment for stealing a Nokia phone worth ₦6,000.
The verdict was passed at the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, after Matthew pleaded guilty to three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. Olufunke Hamzat, sentenced Matthew without an option of fine. She said, “You are hereby sentenced to six months imprisonment without an option of fine for pleading guilty to the charges against you.”
However, Matthew’s accomplice in the crime, Chigozie Udeh, 26, pleaded not guilty. Matthew and Udeh were neighbours in Agege.

EFCC Declares Ex-Convict, Ade Bendel Wanted

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has declared a 419 kingpin, Ade Adedeji Olumide better known as “Ade Bendel” wanted. The Owan born-businessman is wanted for allegedly perpetrating a fraud of $ 7.5 million fraud while serving a jail term in Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison. Ade Bendel was convicted and sentenced to a 6-year jail term in 2007 for defrauding an Egyptian Army General. While serving his term, Ade claimed to have become born-again and he even organized several crusades on his release.
The declaration was made known by the Head of the Commission’s Media and Publicity Unit, Wilson Uwujaren.
The notification reads in part, “the public is hereby notified that Olumide Adedeji (a.k.a Ade Bendel) is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with a case of Criminal Conspiracy and obtaining the sum of $ 7,855,500 and ₦3,000,000 from a Nigerian citizen while serving a jail term at Kirikiri Prison, Lagos.

The Nigeria Police, Warri Area Command, Warri, Delta State, has arrested and paraded two suspects involved in e-banking transfer fraud to the tune of four million naira.
The Area Commander, ACP Hussaini Rabiu, over the weekend, paraded the suspects in Warri.
The two suspects are Mr Edema Rapheal (20), an apprentice, who resides at No. 9, Ogbelaka Street, Benin City and Mr Friday Wuruyai (21), a Federal Government Scholarship 200 level student of Benson Idahosa University, studying Computer Science and resides at No. 24 Abala Street, Warri.
The four million naira, said to have been electronically stolen, belonged to one Mr Chris Ekpekurede, an engineer, who resides at No. 2, Saniyo Street, Off Jakpa Road, Effurun.
Ekpekurede was said to have received a phony text message on June 12, 2013 which read: “Dear customer, your First Bank online security is still not active. Please, log in below to activate your online verification privacy Department 2013 First Bank Plc.”
The unsuspecting Ekpekurede was said to have logged in all his bank details including his ATM pin number. Thereafter, he received an alert from First Bank Nigeria Plc that he had transferred four million naira from his account.

SSS Parades Suspected Kidnappers of Rhodes-Vivour's Wife, Daughter

Three members of a gang that kidnapped the wife, daughter and driver of a judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour, in May, this year, were among the seven suspects paraded by the State Security Service (SSS) in Benin City, Tuesday. The Rhodes-Vivour family was held captive for 18 days by their captors.
The other suspects paraded were three extortionists who threatened to kill their victim if he didn’t pay up and a musician who was paraded for trafficking in persons.
Edo State Director of SSS, Mr. Bello Bakori, who paraded the suspects before the state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, and media men said the suspects had confessed to the crime and that three members of the kidnappers’ gang who abducted the judge’s family members were still at large.
He said Mrs. Rhodes-Vivour and her daughter were kept in a house in Upper Sakpoba area of Benin City from where the suspects were arrested. All the kidnap suspects are from Delta State while the trafficker in persons hails from Edo State.

A Port Harcourt-based cleric, Bishop Chibuike Nwabueze was on Tuesday paraded before the media by the Rivers State police command for allegedly raping a 15-year old girl.
Although he claimed to have both been hypnotised as well as set up by a colleague bishop, the cleric confessed to having a “carnal knowledge” of the teenager in question.
He said his ordeal was orchestrated by another bishop in whose office the immoral act took place, adding that plot to ensnare and embarrass him followed on the desire of his brother bishop to displace him as the chairman of all bishops in the state, a post he (the accused bishop) currently occupied.
The accused also denied reports that he assisted in aborting the pregnancy that resulted from the illicit act with the teenager, alleging that it was the girl’s father who did the abortion, while he, the bishop, paid for the cost.

Diya, others to pay N5.5m for assaulting, battering mortician

A Lagos High Court, Ikeja has ordered a former Chief of General Staff, Gen. Oladipupo Diya, and other directors of his funeral services firm to pay N5.5m as damages for assaulting and battering a mortician, Mr. Oluwatosin Onamade, in 2008.
Justice Opeyemi Oke, in a judgment on Monday, described the action of Diya and others as “an example of impunity” executed to force Onamade out of the management of the company.
“The action of the defendants is condemnable; it is an arbitrary use of power,” Oke held.

She held that the defendants took the law into their hands by assaulting and battering the claimant and unlawfully seizing his belongings.

Gunmen free 175 prisoners in Akure jailbreak

There was pandemonium in the early hours of Sunday when gunmen, numbering about 30, invaded the Olokuta Medium Security Prisons in Akure, Ondo State capital, and set about 175 inmates free.
The bandits, according to eyewitnesses, arrived at the prison premise, which is less than one kilometre away from the headquarters of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, also known as Owena Barracks, around 12. 05am, shooting indiscriminately.
The armed men were said to have gained entry into the prison by using dynamite to blow off a section of the walls, after a futile attempt to enter through the main entrance.
A source said one of the warders was hit by the attackers’ bullets, was ordered to release the keys to the cells, and was also forced to set the inmates free.

Nigerian Actor Arrested For Attempting To Kidnap Monarch's Wife

A 27-year-old secondary school dropout, Ismaila Dauda, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for an alleged abduction.
Dauda, a fledgling actor, based in Ondo, was accused of attempting to abduct the wife of the traditional ruler of Ilisan Remo in March 2013, with the help of three others- Segun, Nurudeen and an unidentified man.
However, Dauda said he was not aware that he was part of a gang of kidnappers until too late.
He said, “At the time, I was not aware that it was a planned abduction. Segun is a close friend and had borrowed my car. Because the car was without a spare tyre and not in good condition, I offered to drive him wherever he wanted.
“I was under the impression that Segun was in search of a suitable school for his teaching practice as he is a student of a College of Education,” Dauda said.
Dauda, Segun and Nurudeen allegedly left Ondo, while a fourth unidentified man was picked up at Ore. Under Segun’s direction, Dauda allegedly drove to a secondary school close to the palace of the Oba of Ilisan in Ogun State.

Masquerade stabs man to death in Enugu

The police in Enugu on Friday arrested a masquerade for allegedly stabbing a 60-year-old man, Emma Nnamani, to death.
The Public Relations Officer of the state command, Ebere Amaraizu, said in a statement that the masquerade allegedly stabbed the man on Thursday.
He said investigations had shown that the masquerade was worn by one Chinedu Iyioke of Umuofiagu Ukehe in Igboetiti Local Government Area.
“Emma Nnamani was stabbed in his lower abdomen for a yet to be identified reason,” Mr. Amaraizu said.
He said the victim was rushed to Elechi Hospital for medical attention where he gave up the ghost. He said the body of the deceased had been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.

Later, she posted another photo of the drug laid out to spell 'HBD POKO'.
The last time I checked, Marijuana smoking is still illegal in Nigeria, why is Tonto recklessly throwing it on our faces?

Francis Atuche, his wife and former CFO of defunct Bank PHB must answer ₦25bn theft charge – EFCC

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday insisted at a Lagos High Court, Ikeja, that the former Managing Director of the defunct Bank PHB Plc, Mr. Francis Atuche, had a case to answer over the ₦25.7bn theft charges it instituted against him and others.
The anti-graft agency had charged Atuche, his wife, Elizabeth; and the former Chief Financial Officer of the bank, Mr. Ugo Anyanwu, with 27 counts of stealing the bank’s ₦25.7bn while he (Atuche) was the MD of the bank.
Opposing the accused persons’ “no-case submission” on Wednesday, EFCC’s counsel, Mr. Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), said with the witnesses the agency had called to testify in the case, sufficient evidence had been adduced to prove their guilt.
He said evidence before the court was “potent, cogent and very forensic linking the defendants to the alleged crime”

Man accused of raping a UNILAG student and posting her nude pictures online

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Babajide Bashorun, for allegedly kidnapping a female undergraduate of the University of Lagos, Akoka, and raping her.
The police said Bashorun, a dog breeder, did not only rape his victim, he also took snapshot of her nudity, which he allegedly posted on the Internet.
A family source said, “Few days later, the pictures were all over the Internet. The picture had the name and surname of the girl, her university, age, department and course of study. People were stopping her on the campus to tell her they had seen her nude pictures on the Internet.
“The girl’s relations later saw the pictures and urged her parents to report the mater at Adeniji Adele Police Division.”
Policemen from the station subsequently arrested Bashorun.
A senior officer from the station, who pleaded anonymity, told our correspondent that the police were still on the trail of two undergraduates of UNILAG.

Undergraduate, bank employees arrested for Internet fraud

The Special Fraud Unit of the Nigeria Police has arrested a final year student of Imo State University, Uche Akobundu; two employees of Skye Bank PLC, Nnamdi Dike, Olawale Ogunniran and a bureau de change operator, Sanni Ismaila, for alleged fraud.
Punch Metro learnt that Akobundu, who is the prime suspect, was in the habit of meeting American women on dating websites.
After cajoling the women to fall in love with him, he would promise to marry them and then start collecting money from them through Western Union Money Transfer.
According to the police, Akobundu went by various pseudonyms such as Devon Miles and Martin Williams, which he used to impersonate American men.
The suspect, who claimed to be studying Microbiology, said he posed as an American living in Nigeria.

A young Pakistani actress was in critical condition Sunday after a man threw acid on her face while she was sleeping, her brother said.
The alleged attack on 18-year-old Bushra Waiz happened early Saturday at the family home in Nowshera, in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.
Akhtar Waiz told CNN his family was asleep in the courtyard when a man burst in and threw acid on his sister.
Bushra Waiz, who is also known as Shazia Aziz, is a Pashto-language singer, actress and theater artist.
She suffered burns to the right side of her face. Doctors said her right leg, arm and eye were also injured.

AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has been sentenced to seven years in prison after being found guilty of charges of corruption and soliciting an underage prostitute.
The 76-year-old was accused of paying for sex with Moroccan girl Karima El Mahroug in 2010, when she was 17, as well as abusing his position in public office for attempting to force her release from police custody over a charge of petty theft. Although prosecutors sought a six-year custodial sentence for the former Italian Premier, a court in Milan issued a seven-year punishment following the guilty verdict in addition to a lifetime ban from politics, pending any appeal from Berlusconi’s solicitors.
However, it could be months or even years before he serves any punishment, with Berlusconi entitled to appeal the verdict twice before it becomes final.

Berlusconi is already embroiled in several legal battles in the Italian courts. In October 2012, he was issued a four-year prison sentence for tax fraud, which has been upheld

Four convicted criminals were on Monday executed by hanging in the premises of the Benin City Central Prisons, says Edo Attorney General Henry Idahagbon.The justice commissioner in Edo state confirmed the hanging of the four prisoners, who had been convicted of either armed robbery or murder, he said.
According to the commissioner, all their appeals had been exhausted and their death warrants were signed.
"The court gave the judgement this afternoon that the execution could go ahead and the prison authority went ahead," Henry Idahagbon told AFP.
He added that the executions were carried out by the prison service, a federal agency, and not the state government.

Man shot dead at Osun PDP meeting

A 25-year-old man Kunle Olagoke was on Sunday shot dead at a factional meeting of a political party believed to be the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edunabon, Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State.
It was gathered that he died during a clash of rival factions of the party in the area.
Sources said there had been a leadership tussle between the two factions since last year in Ife North Local Government.
The PDP in the area had been allegedly enmeshed in crisis since the assumption of office of the chairman of the party in the council, Mr. Sam Oyetade.
A leader of the party in the state, who is also a governorship aspirant was not favorably disposed to the emergence of Oyetade as chairman and had made several efforts to get him impeached to no avail.

There seems to be no end to Nigerian businessman Anthony Chinedu's saga with the Kenyan Government – the seven Kenyan officials and five-airline crew of a private jet hired to deport Chinedu and others are still be held in Nigeria.
In a recent interview conducted by Larry Madowo of NTV Kenya, Chinedu claimed he was far from being a drug dealer as alleged by the Kenyan Government, that the criminal charges against him were fabricated lies by his estranged wife, Joyce Akinyi.
When asked if he would like to return to Kenya, the businessman who speaks fluent Swahili said “i dont want to go back to Kenya, i just want my money back”
Meanwhile, KandF learnt that in a recent report, Chinedu was quoted saying “We are doing Kenya a favour by marrying their women. I have never heard of a Kenyan man marrying a Nigerian. Without Nigeria’s patronage, Kenyan Airways would fold up”
