Bayelsa Police Recover Buried Arms

The police in Bayelsa State said on Monday that they had recovered 1,700 rounds of ammunition buried in the ground by suspected bandits at Kolouama 1 community, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.
The police also said they recovered eight pump action rifles, five AK47 rifles and 19 magazines buried at the same location by the suspects.
Displaying the arms at the police command headquarters, Yenagoa, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tonye Ebitibituwa, said the arms and ammunition were unearthed in an abandoned building located in the community.
The CP said the operation that led the recovery of the arms was carried out by the police, the Nigerian Navy and the state security outfit codenamed Operation Doo-Akpo.
“These arms and ammunition were buried in the ground. The house was deserted. By digging up the ground, these arms and ammunition were found. We have eight pump action guns, five AK 47 rifles, 1,700 rounds of ammunition and 19 pump action guns,” he said.

Ebitibituwa added that the police would continue to mop up illegal arms in circulation to make the state peaceful.

54 Pregnant Girls discovered in Lagos Public Schools


According to a recent statistics released by the Office of Youth and Social Development, 54 pregnant girls and 200 students on drugs have been uncovered in Lagos public secondary schools.
This unhealthy discovery showed that 54 pregnant girls were counselled by the school social services in the last one year out of the 378 schools visited.
Out of the 54 pregnant girl students counselled, 18 of them who were with serious depression were brought under supervision of the social welfare service.
The report also revealed that 154 cases of sexual assault were uncovered and the victims were counselled, while 27 of such affected students were placed under supervision. 91 victims of physical abuse were counselled, with 27 placed under supervision.

The department also counselled 102 students who absconded with 50 of such students placed under supervision.

Couple Stab Each Other Over 'American Idol' Winner


Cops say 48-year-old Karen Elaine Harrelson and 57-year-old Gregory Stambaugh were watching the singing competition show last week at Stambaugh's York home when suddenly an argument erupted between the pair as to which contestant should win the title — fight over Candice Glover and Kree Harrison (the two finalists).
The argument reportedly escalated when Harrelson took a knife out and stabbed her boyfriend. Stambaugh stabbed the woman in response to the attack.
According to York Police, the dispute between the couple was over "American Idol" finalists Candice Glover and Kree Harrison.
After the knife fight came to an end, both boyfriend and girlfriend were arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

Caverton Helicopters yesterday faulted the House of Representatives' Committees on Justice and Aviation report that an 'agency relationship' exists between it and the controversial Rivers State owned aircraft N565RS.
The aviation company denied the existence of such a relationship and demanded concrete evidence from those who claim otherwise.
In its reaction on Sunday, Caverton Helicopters said it was surprising how the committees arrived at such weighty position and recommendation 'without an independent, forensic investigation and without any counter-veiling evidence other than the mere say-so of a party to a dispute.'
'We expected more rigour, more nuance, more balance, and greater restraint from such an august body,' added the statement signed by communication consultant to Caverton Helicopters, Mr. Waziri Adio.

Nigerian student gets 12 years’ jail, 10 strokes for drug possession

A 24-year-old Nigerian student who pleaded guilty to drug possession has claimed his involvement with bad company in Malaysia caused him to commit the offence.
Anadozie Temple Williams was arrested for possessing 996g cannabis, when Ops Tapis was carried out at Block G, Mentari Court, Jalan PJS 8/9, Sungai Way in Petaling Jaya at 4.20am on Aug 23, 2011.
The drugs were found wrapped in newspapers on the floor after Williams dropped the packet from his right hand while trying to flee.
Justice Noor Azian Shaari said Williams was lucky that the prosecution offered him an alternative charge of drug possession.

Medical workers may begin strike Thursday

FROM Thursday, all the federal medical facilities in the country may be shut down as crisis between the workers and Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu may take a new turn. The health workers, under the auspices of Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) and Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations (AHPA), have continuously called on President Goodluck Jonathan to relieve the Minister of the burden of administering health matters in the country, saying the university don has demonstrated the lowest level of inefficiency ever seen in Nigeria’s history of health delivery.
Indeed, The Guardian learnt that their exclusion from boards might be seen by the unionists as a slight on them and in equal measure, they have resolved to use the strike action to force President Jonathan to remove Prof. Chukwu from office.

JTF impounds vessel, arrests 21 suspected oil thieves

A vessel christened ERISHNA DOLPHIN suspected for oil theft has been impounded by troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Pulo Shield in recent anti-illegal oil bunkering water patrols along Southern Ijaw Creeks of Bayelsa state.
According to a statement by Media Coordinator of the JTF, Lt. Col Onyema Nwachukwu, the vessel was intercepted by troops of 343 Regiment of Sector 2 JTF along Obi Creek in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area has been secured by operatives of the JTF pending recovery to Brass terminal.
Eleven oil theft suspects operating two barges laden with 7,500 and 500,000 litres of adulterated Automated Gas Oil illegally distilled from stolen crude oil have been arrested respectively at Bakana creek and Abonema water front in Rivers State by troops of 146 Battalion of JTF, Sector 2 for engaging in oil theft activities.

Angelina Jolie's aunt, Debbie, 61 has lost her battle with Stage Four breast cancer; the news of her death was relayed by Debbie’s husband, Ronald Martin.
This is coming on the heels of Jolie’s recent announcement that she had a preventative double mastectomy earlier in the year.
"Angelina has been in touch throughout the week and her brother Jamie has been with us, giving his support day by day," Ronald said. "They both loved Debbie very much and although Angie is not able to come right now she has sent her love and support which was very nice."

Debbie died at Palomar Hospital in Escondido, Calif. and is survived by her husband Ron and their two sons Chris and Cory Martin.

NGF: Amaechi is a traitor-Asari-Dokubo

Former militant and leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Alhaji Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, yesterday described Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State as a traitor to the cause of the Niger Delta by seeking re-election as Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF).
Many supporters of President Goodluck Jonathan including Asari-Dokubo regard Amaechi's decision to contest the election which he won as a slight on the President.
Asari-Dokubo, speaking on a phone-in radio programme in Port Harcourt, accused the governor of confronting the President, a fellow Niger Delta citizen and working against his interest for s second term in office in 2015.
He declared that the re-elected chairman of the NGF (Amaechi) would be treated like a traitor, having been confronting President Jonathan, his kinsman from the Niger Delta, who wants to seek re-election in 2015.

Directed by Justin Chadwick, the film follows the story of the former South African President from his childhood to his time in prison through to his election.

You can only wonder how many of the contestants would be able to impress the trio of MI, Reggie Rockstone and Onyeka Onwenu.

Police shut down screening of Kanye West's 'New Slaves' video in Texas
A screening of Kanye West’s new video for single ‘New Slaves’ in Texas has been shut down by police who claimed fans were trespassing.
Last weekend saw buildings in cities around the world have the video projected onto them to unveil the video for the first single from his new album Yeezus, and this weekend is set to see the promo play in a selection of new locations.
But as the Houston Chronicle reports, the rapper’s plans to project the video onto the Rothko Chapel in Houston, Texas, have been scuppered by police who told fans that they’d be arrested for trespassing if they didn’t leave.

The Chronicle also reports that a further two screenings planned in the city didn’t take place, with one at the Central Library abandoned due to technical difficulties, and another at the Bush Memorial Hall a ‘no show’ according to fan Janet Quiora who said: “All we saw were the sprinklers come on and obnoxious people screaming Kanye threats.”

Nigerian star MI set to perform in Nairobi


Top Nigerian hip-hop star MI will be performing in Kenya at the official launch of Chocolate City music label. He will also participate in a series of concerts by Adrenaline Live Music Concept at Museum Hill in Nairobi on May 31.
MI - real name Jude Abaga - is signed to the label that also houses singer Victoria Kimani. The two have recorded a single together.
Chocolate City is looking to boost the music prowess of artistes in East Africa. The company's aim, according to the Kenyan rep, Angela Angwenyi, is to raise the standards of music in East Africa to a level where they have the crossover appeal similar to what D'Banj and P Square are enjoying.

The launch will also see the official unveiling of a partnership between Chocolate City and Adrenaline - the organisers of The Mingle - where there will be the birth of new music festivals, concerts, and art culture in East Africa. The inaugural event from the series of concerts will be in July dubbed Boobaataa Festival.
