George Clooney and Girlfriend, Stacy Keibler split after two years

George Clooney and his actress/model girlfriend Stacy Keibler have split, after months of speculation that their relationship was on the rocks.

Stacy, 33, reportedly broke up with George, 52, because they wanted different things in life.

"Stacy called it quits," a close friend of the couple told PEOPLE. "She wants to have children and a family someday. She knows where George stands on that.

"They talked and they quietly stopped being a couple several weeks ago."

Despite dating one of the world's most eligible bachelors, Stacy has rarely spoken out about

their romance. She often takes to Twitter to post inspirational quotes instead, some of which could have reflected her tough time dealing with the break-up.

"'Trying times are not the times to stop trying.' - Ray Owen," she recently posted.

A few days after, she retweeted Channing Tatum's, sharing, "'Happiness doesn't come as a result of getting something we don't have, but rather of recognizing & appreciating what we do have.' -F. Koeing."

George and Stacy had been dating for two years, but rumours that their relationship had come to an end have been circulating for several months.
