Ado-Odo crisis: Hoodlums attempted raping my wife -- Traditional ruler


The Olofin of Ado-odo, Oba Abdul Lateef Akanni Adeniran, on Monday, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, before the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Ado-odo crisis, stunned the court when he said the hoodlums who attacked him on April 15 attempted to rape his wife, while his crown and other valuables were stolen.
Oba Akanni, who disclosed this while giving graphic details of how he was attacked by the hoodlums on the fateful day, said ₦1.5 million kept in his palace as of the time of the incident was equally stolen, while he was beaten with charms, just as he said he would have been dead if not for the grace of God.
According to him, “these hoodlums, after beating and striping me naked, proceeded to the palace where all the cars parked in the compound were set ablaze. My family was physically
attacked. Infact, my first wife, Alhaja Fausat Adebisi Akanni, was assaulted, striped naked, as they even attempted to rape her and was only saved by the arrival of the contingent of Nigeria Army sent to douse the tension.”
The traditional ruler, who, according to a statement by the media officer of the commission, Mr Ayokunle Ewuoso, listed 51 respondents and six sponsors/financiers of the respondents in his memorandum filed before the commission, as he said he was travelling alongside his driver, Mr Olufunmi Jide, to Ilaro, to see the Olu of Ilaro and paramount ruler of Yewa land, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, when the hoodlums, led by one Jaye Falana, attacked him.
Narrating his ordeal, the Olofin of Ado-odo, disclosed that Mr Ganiyu Lawal, who attempted to rescue him, was attacked with machet and clubs to the point of unconsciousness, while he was equally beaten up to the point that he lost consciousness.
