Filo: Songwriter and businessman,
Akon is extending his business empire to the Caribbean and there’s no stopping
him. Come May 25th, the Konvict Clothing
boss would be opening his new super club - JEWEL
Punta Cana Disco Club, in the Dominican Republic.
Punta
Cana is the name of a region in the easternmost tip of the Dominican Republic
and is home to a coastline of sandy white beaches.
Filo: The name Linda Ogutu
may not ring a bell, but the well-endowed TV personality is a household name in
Kenya. Linda, a former staff of NTV, is currently a News Anchor at Kenya’s leading
station, Kenya Television Network (KTN).
The hipped
lady is a regular feature on the station’s prime time news at 9pm; a moment an
average Kenyan wouldn’t want to miss – not necessarily because of the news but
to behold their favourite news anchor.
Lately,
there have been reports of scuffles in bars and clubs due to demands by merry makers,
especially men to have TV sets tuned to KTN… just to watch Linda.
Kenyan Post
reported an incident that occurred recently in Nairobi, “Over the weekend at a
club in Nairobi's Westlands area, chaos erupted after the club manager chose to
switch to KTN for the 9pm news...Reason being LINDA OGUTU.
And
immediately a reveller demanded that the station be tuned to Citizen because
Janet Mbugua was reading the news and what followed was an exchange of words as
revellers fought to have their favourite anchor tuned in. It took the
intervention of the management to calm everyone down by switching off all the
TV's and demanded that people concentrate on their drinks”
Kiyo: The pregnant reality TV
star, Kim Kardashian and her partner Kanye West have allegedly asked their
friends and family to make donations to charity rather than buy gifts for their
baby.
TMZ
has learned that reports on the internet stating the famous couple had started
a baby registry list are fake.
Instead,
Kim and Kanye are said to be asking their nearest and dearest to donate a
cheque to the Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago, where the rapper grew up.
Filo: Some folks are
always guilty of ‘over syllabus’; who says Kimye cannot provide for their
child.
Kiyo: Recently, reports of
Justin Bieber’s excessiveness have become a recurring decimal. The singer has removed
his shirt in public countless times; arriving late on stage, spitting at a
neighbour and lately, the drugs search on his tour bus are all part of his downward
spiral.
However,
Selena, who was rumoured to have reconciled with Justin is determined to get him
back on the right track and has turned to Pastor
Judah Smith for advice.
“Selena’s
been in touch with Justin’s best friend Pastor Judah Smith and asking advice on
how she should approach things. He’s convinced that Selena can help Justin, so
he’s doing everything he can to get them back together,” a source told British
magazine Heat.
If you
think she is overreacting, well listen to this - she’s also been in contact
with Justin’s confidante and former ‘swagger coach’ Ryan Good.
Filo: A break from the
norm! Ordinarily she should have suggested a rehab.
Filo: It seems Cassi
Thomson has a Ghanaian sister in the person of Nadia Buari. Cassi is an Australian-born
American actress and singer who stars as ‘Cara Lynn’ on HBO “Big Love”
Filo: You may not rate the
video very high, but Samini’s Ghana Petrol has a message which is pertinent to
Ghana’s emerging oil industry and is a peep into the degradation experienced in the
Niger Delta since the discovery of the so called ‘black gold’
Kiyo: Feel the lyrics;
Chorus
I
see sey them they come oo
Ghana
get petrol so they want to come and control
Them
they come oo oy
Africa
get oil so them don't want to live ma soil
Them
they come oo
Ghana

Them

Africa

Verse
1
Everybody

And
i wonder why them still want to come around recession
This
is like 21st century oppression
I

I

Dogs

I
can feel them hawks coming in
Mafias

Filo: Ghanaian sexy actress, Nadia
Buari and Nigerian born Hollywood actor, Dayo Okeniyi featured in the cover of
the April edition of Complete Fashion magazine.
Dayo,
who is known for his role as Thresh in the movie ‘Hunger Games’ has a Nigerian
father who is a retired customs officer and a Kenyan mother.
Kiyo: A dismissed police
officer, Kelvin Ighodalo has been sentenced to 45 years imprisonment for
stealing a Sony Ericson phone of the Governor of Osun state, Rauf Aregbesola.
The

six months later, Kelvin made attempt to defraud and obtained the sum of N500,000
from his royal majesty, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolara Owa-Obokun of Ijesha land
by using the Governor’s phone.
Filo: Every day for the
thief, but come to think of it; you steal a Governor’s phone and try to
impersonate him, you get 45 years, loot the national treasury, you get less
than two years.
Filo: In the mail, the
sender identifies ‘herself’ as Tessy Annan; see the photos attached and ‘her’ bogus

Filo: Cristiano Ronaldo has
vehemently denied claims that he cheated on his girlfriend Irina Shayk with
Brazilian model Andressa Urach, also known as 'Miss BumBum'.
Urach
told The Sun on Sunday that she had slept with the Real Madrid star at the
Hotel Villa Magna just 48 hours before the first leg of Madrid's Champions
League semi-final tie against Borussia Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park, but
the player has insisted ‘everything else is pure fiction and forgery’.
Kiyo: Let’s see if Andressa
Urach would come up with more evidence
Filo: Taylor Swift was
alleged to have recently purchased a mansion in Rhode Island for a sum of $17.75
million; guess what - she paid for it in cash with a single payment as reported
by TMZ.
Recall
the singer owns a home in Beverly Hills, California and a penthouse duplex in
Nashville, Tennessee.
Now,
what do you call that - showing off?
Kiyo: Think she is just a
business woman taking advantage of paying cash to get a discount from the
original asking price of $20 million.
Filo: Back to Black is the
recent effort of Beyonce and Andre 3000; a song that forms part of the
soundtrack of Baz Luhrmann’s movie "The Great Gatsby"
The song
first appeared on Winehouse's 2006 album of the same title. On the new version,
Andre handles the first half of the song, doing more singing than rapping this
time, before Beyonce takes over the rest of it.
Kiyo: Preferred Amy
Winehouse original version, what do you think?
Filo: Rapper, Lynxx, his siblings,
and family organise a 70th birthday party for their father; the former Governor
of old Bendel state and the first deputy governor of Delta state, Chief John
Edozien in Lagos.
Kiyo: 2 Face has signed up
for the MTV Africa All Stars KwaZulu-Natal with Snoop Lion; the urban music
extravaganza will be staged by MTV Base and KwaZulu-Natal Province in Durban,
South Africa on May 18. Flavour and Zakes Bantwini would grace the stage with 2Face
and Snoop Lion at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban. More than 10,000 people
are expected to enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime concert.

perform his greatest hits interspersed with reggae-flavour.
Kiyo: Psy was honoured at
the Tribeca Film Festival in New York on Friday for taking over the world with
his popular Gangnam Style
Accepting
the award at the New York University prize giving, the singer said 'who knew,
right? Giving me this award in itself is innovation, I think...I still cannot
believe what happened right now'
Filo: Life! Psy applied to New
York University in 1996 but failed; now he is honoured by same university. That
was why he said ‘finally I entered this building this morning’.
Filo: In an interviewfeatured
in Metro UK publication under Ents and Tech Music column, Tunde Baiyewu, a frontman
of pop group The Lighthouse Family bares his mind on his child hood experiences.
He recounted
the incidence of his father’s death at age four and his family’s relocation to
Nigeria from the UK. Tunde talked about his joining a church just to stay out
of trouble and the marriage of his mother to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The father
of two girls (Elizabeth and Rebecca) also recalled his encounter with Paul
Tucker after he discovered Accountancy profession was not for him, though he
has a degree in same field.
The ‘Great
Romantic’ singer has a piece of advice for parents “You have to tell kids off
occasionally but I don’t want them to harbour those feelings that there’s any
sort of preferential treatment because there isn’t”.
Kiyo: Touching interview;
good to know his relationship with his step dad is cordial.
Filo: An Indiana man, William
James has filed a lawsuit against Tyler Perry, claiming the filmmaker stole his
idea for Perry’s latest film, Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor.
According
to TMZ, James admits he doesn’t know for sure if Perry even saw his
screenplay. His lawsuit claims he wrote
the plot in 2009 and supposedly handed it over to “an associate” of Oprah
Winfrey’s, hoping it would eventually make its way into Perry’s hands.
Kiyo: I hope Williams’ motivation
is not the $49 million Temptation grossed since its March 29 release.
Kiyo: In a recent interview
with Kemi Vaughan of Punch Newspaper, Zaaki Azzay was asked if he thinks
divorce is the best option.
He said
“First of all, I didn’t send my wife out of the house. I didn’t sue for
divorce. I did not go to the press; everything I have been accused of, I did
not do. So, I don’t have any hand in anything, as far as I’m concerned. If you
want to hide a lie, you have to lie a billion times to cover the lie. The truth
you can’t hide, that’s all I have to say”.
Filo: Do you believe him?
Well
the singer says ‘I don’t need anybody to believe what I have to say. If you
believe me, fine, if you don’t believe me, fine. Time will tell’.
Kiyo: A Nigerian scientist
has been named among the ten finalists for the $100,000 Innovation Prize for
Africa.
Justus
Nwaoga developed a new way to collect renewable solar energy by using the
mimosa pudica weed, an organic African medicinal plant. The Mimosa weed has the
ability to close its leaves when touched, open at sunrise and fold at sunset.
The obvious control by the sun and photovoltaic response in live mimosa plants
generated the plant’s solar energy potential.
Filo: According to africaninnovationnews.com,

Filo: Afro beat maestro,
Femi Kuti who is currently on a music tour in Europe has released a new video
for his single ‘The World is Changing’; a track from his new album ‘No Place
For My Dream’.
Filo: A New Brunswick woman
has been trying for three years to bring her Nigerian-born husband to Canada,
but the government says the marriage is not legitimate.
Vicki
Obichere married her husband Kelvin, who lives in Nigeria, three years ago
after an online courtship.
She
says the work involved having her husband join her in Salisbury, N.B. has been
exhausting.
“We
just received an email yesterday,” says Obichere.
The
email, from a Canadian immigration officer, says the department does not
consider her marriage to be valid. Obichere now has 30 days to prove she and
her husband is a legitimate couple.
She
also says she understands there needs to be laws to prevent immigration fraud,
but insists her marriage is real.
Kiyo: Oyibo woman way of
thinking “Why spend five years with me if it was just about getting into the
country? Why not move onto someone else?” she asks.
Kiyo: Nigerian Islamist
sect Boko Haram was paid an equivalent of around $3.15 million by French and
Cameroonian negotiators before freeing seven French hostages this month, a
confidential Nigerian government report obtained by Reuters said.
The
memo does not say who paid the ransom for the family of seven, who were all
released on April 19, although it says Cameroon freed some Boko Haram detainees
as part of the deal.
The
Nigerian report suggests that 1.6 billion CFA francs ($3.15 million) was paid More on Reuters
Filo: Rising from her tax
and rent ordeal, Lauryn Hill confirmed on Tumblr today she is indeed working on
new music and that she's launching her own label through Sony, on which she
plans to release this new record.
Kiyo: Touching note from
Ms Lauryn Hill; in Naija we would say her case is spiritual.
Filo: Nicki Minaj is in
final negotiations to make her live-action movie debut, joining the cast of
Fox’s revenge comedy ‘The Other Woman’.
The cast
of the comedy would include Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau
and Kate Upton. The Other Woman, directed by Nick Cassavetes centers on a woman
(Diaz) who finds out that she is “the other woman” in an affair.
Meanwhile,

social causes.
The
Best Artist award was given for her live “Spirit Rising” album and in recognition
of her career achievements, Songlines editor-in-chief Simon Broughton told
Reuters.
Kiyo: Congrats to one of
Africa’s biggest singing stars.
Filo: Nigeria-based online
gaming company, KULUYA.com, on Thursday announced it raised another small seed
stage investment to expand commercial activities, thereby propping the
company’s valuation to $2 million.
Kunle
Ogungbamila, Head of KULUYA said: “We have grown the company to a $2 million
valuation in six months. Our goal is to become one of the most successful media
companies in Africa, and with today’s news, I see this as being totally
achievable”.
Kiyo: With games such as ‘My
Oga @ the Top’ which Kunle claimed was played 60,000 times within the first 72
hours of its release, one wonders if Mr Shem Obafaiye received royalty.
Banky and the MD Samsungmobileng, Emmanouil Revmatas
Filo: Banky W was at the
launch of the android beast, Samsung Galaxy S4 in Johannesburg, South Africa
and has confirmed the Naija launch would be on May 10th.
Information
reaching us suggests the phone might go for ₦104k to ₦110k when released in
Naija. What do you think of the price?
Filo: The event, tagged ‘Carnival
in the Desert show’ was organised by Kinabuti, a Lagos-based ethical fashion
label run by Italian designer Caterina Bortolussi.
Yesterday
it seems all was going well until that moment every model dreads – one of the model
fell on the platform with the look of horror in front of the photographers and invited
guests at the Italian consulate.
Kiyo: Embarrassing moment
for the organisers and the model; reminds me of Naomi Campbell at Paris Fashion
Week in 1993. Cat walking no be beans.
Filo: A press hand-out has
been released to refute recent reports that Ghanaian actress Jackie Appiah and
Nigerian model Bobby Obodo are getting married.
Here
is the press release:
Intro:
Jackie Appiah is a Ghanaian actress, while Bobby Obodo is an actor and a
Nigerian model. Jackie is already separated from her husband and she is
rumoured to be dating Bobby Obodo. Here is a press statement from her people
denying the story which has gone viral on the internet.
I
find it necessary to comment on recent scurrilous, slanderous and preposterous
social media reports on Jackie Appiah's alleged 'marriage' to Bobby Obodo.
Kiyo: Mandy Uzonitsha, one
of the pioneer female stand-up comedians in Nigeria would be cracking jokes at
The Hub (Oasis Mall) in Kampala, Uganda this weekend.
The comedienne
is not new to the entertainment industry in Uganda; she was also at the Night
of 1000 laughs comedy show in Kampala last year, where she wowed many with her jokes
about Ugandan celebrities and social life.
Filo: She’s being in this
business for long; not many would remember Mandy as that girl on the street,
playing pranks on people in the popular Candid Camera segment of Charly Boy
Show
